Emily Dickinson Museum presents
Sunday Afternoons This July at the Emily Dickinson Museum
|
This July, why not spend your Sunday afternoons at the Emily Dickinson Museum? We're celebrating our third annual lecture series, "Poetry in the Garden," featuring the lectures of well-known scholars and artists reflecting on the life and work of Emily Dickinson. Come escape the heat in the shade of the old oak trees and gorgeous gardens where Emily wrote her famous poems. Refreshments are free.

Sunday, July 20, 2 p.m.
Susan Hess, artist "'Pondering Emily's Hours in the Garden"
Hess is a fiber artist based in Georgetown, Maine, who has illustrated Emily
Dickinson's words through tapestry art. Her work emphasizes the power of Dickinson's
language as the therapeutic process that enabled her to confront
personal struggles against abuse and suffering.
Sunday, July 27, 2 p.m.
Maxine Silverman, poet "Transport of the Aim"
Silverman's poetry and essays have been published in many journals and
anthologies including Pushcart Prize III: Best of the Small Presses and
Voices Within the Ark: the Modern Jewish Poets. She will read from her most recent work, "'Transport of the Aim,' a fascicle of poems on the lives of Emily
Dickinson, Thomas Wentworth Higginson, Celia Thaxter and others in
their circle." Trained as a Master Gardener, Silverman draws on her life-long love of plants and flowers to bring Emily's world to life.
The Emily Dickinson Museum is located on 280 Main Street, just a block away from Amherst Town Center. For more information, visit www.emilydickinsonmuseum.org or call 413-542-8161.
