Foster a Snow Angel

The first annual Foster the Snow Angel was held on Parliament Hill on February 18th, Family Day. Thanks to the overwhelming support from the Ottawa and regional communities, hundreds of families came to leave their mark on the snow. Each snow angel represented a child in care who needs a family.

The purpose of the event is to ultimately inspire more families to come forward as foster families for children and youth in care. For more information about the event or for pictures, visit fosterasnowangel.com.

Update on the Kinship Program

The Kinship Program at the CAS provides services to approximately 80 Kinship care providers who are supporting their families and caring for Children who currently  cannot be with their family or origin.  One of the support services CAS offers is a 10 week parenting course for Kinship care providers offered by the Family Services à là  famille Ottawa.   The parenting course explores the complicated roles and responsibilities of a Kinship provider while also providing pratical down to earth approaches to dealing with parenting challenges.   There is no fee for this group and Subsidies are available for childcare and travel where necessary. Next session starts April 2 to June 4, 2008

Inuit, Metis and First Nations Tool Kit Launch

It is with great pleasure that we are announcing the launch of a new Inuit, Métis, and First Nations Information and Resource Tool Kit for our workers and care providers. This tool kit was developed in collaboration with our Aboriginal-Inuit service partners. The launch of the tool kit will take place in the form of a celebration of the partnership and our staff have been invited to attend in order to experience first-hand traditional ceremonies, food, and get to know members from Aboriginal-Inuit service agencies at their kiosks. Tool kits will be made available for each worker at the event.

This panel of innovators will speak about their outreach efforts to bring the message of hope and of peace in the home to many diverse, harder to reach communities.
