October is Child Abuse Prevention Month

A campaign is held every year in many communities across Ontario during the month of October. This year, the CAS of Ottawa hopes to distribute over 20,000 Use Your Voice buttons throughout our community during the month of October. The City of Ottawa will be declaring Friday, October 12, 2007 as Child Abuse & Neglect Prevention Day. Once again, the campaign theme is "abused children don't have a voice...give them one."  The Communications Office is printing new posters and will be mailing copies along with the new Buttons to community organizations. For more information about the campaign or to order campaign material please contact Diane Ciravolo, Community Capacity Coordinator at (613) 747-7800 ext. 2680.

2007 Pride Parade

This August, CAS marched in the PRIDE parade and held an information booth. We were extremely well received with 20,000 in attendance. Thank you to the 40 foster parents, staff, adoptive parents, youth and community partners who volunteered and marched with the CAS float.

Take Back the Night: Ending Violence Against Women of All Generations
This year's 29th Anniversary of this event will start with a rally on September 20th at 6:30 pm at the Women's Monument in Minto Park (Elgin and Gilmour) where, at least four keynote speakers will speak up against violence against women.  The rally will be followed by a march in the streets, and an interactive info fair at Ottawa City Hall at 7:45 pm.  Refreshments will be served at City Hall following the rally, and march. The info fair will feature Ottawa community service providers-a great opportunity for community members to learn about various services in Ottawa. There will also be a lot of entertainment at the rally and at the info fair, so come out and enjoy this event.

Ontario Trillium Foundation Funding to Recuit Families
Thanks to a recently awarded Ontario Trillium Foundation grant, Children's Aid Societies in Eastern Ontario will be able to develop and implement a comprehensive public awareness campaign that will highlight the importance of reaching out to children and encouraging families to commit to becoming a foster or adoptive parent. Click here to read the full news release.
