Spend Less - Give More - Love All - Worship Fully

THIS WEEK @ MISSIONWAY
A Different Kind of Gift
Hundreds of years before the coming of Christ, the prophet Isaiah wrote these words, The Lord himself will give you the sign. Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son and will call him Immanuel, which means 'God is with us'. Is.1:14.

In Jesus, God drew near to us. God's gift to us was a relationship built on love, the gift of presence. Christmas should be a time to love our friends and family in the most memorable ways possible. Time is the real gift Christmas offers us. No matter how hard we look, it can't be found at the mall. Time to make a gift that turns into the next family heirloom. Time to write mom a letter. Time to take the kids to the playground or bake them cookies. Time to make love visible through relational giving. Sounds a lot better than getting a sweater that's too small! See you Sunday!

This series is designed to help us live true to the story of Christ's birth by spending less, giving more, loving all, and worshiping fully.

Dec. 21 - A Different Kind of Worship
How MissionWay is Joining Advent Conspiracy
MissionWay's goal through Advent Conspiracy is to spend less on ourselves this Christmas and give more to help others--globally and locally.

Mission Offering Goal: $6,000*
· $2,500: Ethiopia - Projector for Education Resource Center and support for families working in Addis
· $3,000: Haiti - Rebuilding a well that was damaged during the hurricanes earlier this year
· $500: Young Life - Helping local students from Nease go to camp next summer

*This special offering will be taken up on Sunday, December 21. You can also give online, mail your contribution directly to MissionWay or place it in the offering plate on any Sunday.

Join us in giving to our local community this Christmas by participating in "The Christmas Store." This store will allow the families at The Oaks Apartments to purchase Christmas gifts for a fraction of the item's original price. This "help-up" as opposed to a "hand-out" approach offers a fresh way for MissionWay members to share in the joy of giving while preserving the self-respect and dignity of those we help.

Read below to see how you can get involved.
Donations
We have only two weeks to gather all the gifts for The Christmas Store. So, please start collecting your donations and bring them to the patio on Sunday. Our last day to collect gifts is Sunday, December 14. That's only two Sundays away!

If you aren't sure what to buy, adopt a child by selecting an ornament from The Christmas Store tree located on the patio each Sunday. By adopting a child, you are agreeing to purchase three $10 toys for him or her. The Christmas Store tree will be available this Sunday before and after service. Stop on by!

In addition to collecting $10 gifts for children, we are looking for $5 gifts that children can purchase for their parents. Ideas include candles, lotion sets, stationary, perfume, purses, cologne, tools, flashlights, or devotional books.

Finally, we are printing special cards you can provide to friends and family saying you have made a monetary donation on their behalf to The Christmas Store. This is a great way to give to those hard-to-shop-for people on your list. It's also a unique way to spread the word about what Christmas giving is all about.
Children's Ministries
MissionWay is working hard to teach our youngest members the true meaning of Christmas. Over the next two weeks, our children's ministries will be taking a special collection to raise funds for The Christmas Store. This encourages our children to donate their money to those in need in our community. Please help us reinforce this idea in your home as you talk to your little ones about the joy of giving. More information will follow on Sunday.
Volunteers
We need all hands on deck to make The Christmas Store a success! Opportunities for our adult members are available to help set up the week before the event and to help operate the store. The store will be open Sat., Dec 20 and Sun, Dec 21. Opportunities include: wrapping gifts, being the cashier, organizing gift tables, greeting guests, operating the hospitality table, helping shoppers (and many more!). Click here to find out how you can get involved.

If you are able to help, please bring your dish to church on Sunday, Dec. 14, or drop it off at Pastor Ron's house on Sunday afternoon or early Monday morning.  Set up will begin at
8 a.m. at Nease.  Contact Jamie to volunteer.

Stewardship Commitments Update
Two weeks ago we, as the Body of Christ at MissionWay, made commitments of our gifts, talents, service and finances to the Lord through turning in our commitment cards. Thirty-three families turned in pledges for a commitment of $216,500 for 2009. We are still waiting to hear from many of our MissionWay families. Don't forget to turn your cards in by mailing them to our office or dropping them in the offering plate this Sunday.
Christmas Eve Service
Baptist Health South
During the last two years, MissionWay volunteers have facilitated a Christmas Eve service at Baptist Health South that is open to all staff, patients and visitors. This year, as one of our local service projects through Advent Conspiracy, we will again offer this opportunity for folks to be a part of a worship service on Christmas Eve. You can help by coming out to carol at the hospital (located at St. Augustine and I-95) and participate in our worship service. Also bring a dish of your favorite treats (cookies or candy) with you to share with the nurses.  We will begin caroling at 5:30 p.m. and the service at 6:30 p.m.
