THIS WEEK @ MISSIONWAY
The story of Christ's birth is a story of promise, hope, and a revolutionary love. So, what happened? What was once a time to celebrate the birth of a savior has somehow turned into a season of stress, traffic jams, and shopping lists. And when it's all over, many of us are left with presents to return, looming debt that will take months to pay off, and this empty feeling of missed purpose. Is this what we really want out of Christmas? What if Christmas became a world-changing event again? Welcome to Advent Conspiracy.
This series is designed to help us live true to the story of Christ's birth by spending less, giving more, loving all, and worshiping fully. Nov. 30 - A Different Kind of Kingdom Dec. 7 - A Different Kind of Gift Dec. 14 - A Different Kind of Love Dec. 21 - A Different Kind of Worship |

How MissionWay is Joining Advent Conspiracy
MissionWay's goal through Advent Conspiracy is to spend less on ourselves this Christmas and give more to help others--globally and locally.
Mission Offering Goal: $6,000· $2,500: Ethiopia - Projector for EducationResourceCenter and support for families working in Addis Ababa · $3,000: Haiti - Rebuilding a well that was damaged during the hurricanes earlier this year · $500: Young Life - Helping local students from Nease go to camp next summer Local Service Project
· Christmas Eve Service at Baptist South: During the last two years, Missionway volunteers have facilitated a Christmas Eve service at Baptist South that is open to all staff, patients, and visitors. This year we will again offer this opportunity for folks to be a part of a worship service on Christmas Eve. |
Happy Thanksgiving "Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever." Psalm 107:1
We wish you and your family a wonderful Thanksgiving as you gather together and give thanks to the Lord for his love, faithfulness and blessings. |
| Stewardship Commitments Update
Last week we, as the Body of Christ at MissionWay, made commitments of our gifts, talents, service, and finances to the Lord through turning in our commitment cards. Twenty-six families turned in pledges for a commitment of $209,000 for 2009. We are still waiting to hear from many of our MissionWay families. Don't forget to turn your cards in by mailing them to our office or dropping them in the offering plate this Sunday. | |
The Christmas Store
Join us in giving to our local community this Christmas by participating in "The Christmas Store." This store will allow the families at The Oaks Apartments to purchase Christmas gifts for a fraction of the item's original price. This "help-up" as opposed to a "hand-out" approach offers a fresh way for MissionWay members to share in the joy of giving while preserving the self-respect and dignity of those in need. Don't forget to visit The Christmas Store table before or after the service this Sunday. We will have ornaments available for you to select to "adopt a child." The ornament will help you to purchase gifts for a specific gender and age range and will include a list of gift ideas. Click here to learn more about how you can get involved! |
Friday Shopping? If you're planning to brave the crowds this Friday to get good deals on your holiday shopping, consider purchasing something for The Christmas Store. Take advantage of the buy-one-get-one free / 50% off, etc. and while shopping for yourself, also shop for someone in need.
We are looking for items costing $10 that are appropriate from children ages birth - 18. Questions? Contact Melissa Kramer at mamakramer@gmail.com. |

Get Plugged In
There are many opportunities for everyone to get involved in the work taking place at MissionWay. In recent weeks, we've highlighted areas that are in need of volunteers. This week, we take a look at Young Life and our Worship Ministry. |
Young Life
Young Life is a non-denominational youth ministry whose mission is to introduce high school and middle school kids to Jesus Christ and help them grow in their faith. We want to be a bridge between kids and Christ as well as kids and the Church at every school in the North St. Johns County area. Currently, we have 2 teams of leaders doing contact work (going on campus where kids are!) at Nease and Ponte Vedra High School. On Monday nights we have Young Life "Club," where 70-75 teenagers from those schools meet at the "Loading Dock" (MissionWay offices) for a fun-filled night of skits, games, and a short talk about Jesus Christ.
We want to say a huge THANK YOU to MissionWay for your partnership in the Gospel to reach kids who have no interest in God and would never show up to church or youth group!
If you would like to help our ministry, there are several things that you can do. Please contact Strider Stokes at (904) 466-0767 or ylstrider@gmail.com if you'd like to help with any of the following:
- being a volunteer leader - administrative tasks (thank you notes, mailings, organization, etc.) - leader care packages - cleaning (club room, offices) - recruiting leaders - finance team - decoration (club room, office) - community service projects - website development - public relations / church partnerships |
Worship Ministry
We are looking for a number of volunteers to support our work. If anything below sounds interesting, contact Rob Gover at robgover@missionwaychurch.org.
Drummer: We are looking for someone to share this role with Steve. Must be able to rehearse on Wednesdays the week they are scheduled to serve and be available at 8:00am Sunday mornings when scheduled.
Guitarists (Electric or Acoustic): We are always looking for guitarists!
Keyboard player: We need another person (or two!) who knows their way around a keyboard and can add different "fill" elements to our music (brass, trumpets, strings, etc.) via the keyboard.
Lights: Someone dependable that can help Josh during the Sunday service.
Slides: This person must be there at 8:30 on the Sunday that they serve and be able to follow the songs to display the words on the screen and follow Ron's sermon slides. We would prefer that they also be available for Wednesday Band rehearsals the weeks they are scheduled to make sure that all the lyrics are correct.
Sound: We need someone who knows how to mix sound and is available at 8:00am the weeks that they are scheduled.
Video: We are interested in finding someone that is good at recording video footage of our Sunday service and/or could create videos for us to play during certain parts of the service. |
