Penland School of Crafts 27th Annual Benefit Auction
August 10-11, 2012
Here's the next in our ongoing series of Penland Benefit Auction newsletters. For the last several months, we've been highlighting artists whose work will be a part of this year's auction, sharing the thoughts of trustees, staff members, collectors, and friends, about pieces that will be included in the summer 2012 benefit event. Hopefully, we've got you pretty excited about the auction, now only a little more than a week away.
But what if you can't make it to the event? With Saturday sold out and Friday quickly headed that way too, or if your schedule has been irreconcilably conflicted from the start, can you still have a chance of possessing the beautiful artwork that's become the object of your heart's desire? Of course! Don't despair. We're here to do your bidding (literally!).
A few words from Nancy Kerr, Penland's development associate for individual giving, about Absentee Bidding...

"Sign up to bid absentee at Penland's Annual Benefit Auction and our staff will work closely with you to create a personalized bidding plan and execute your bids. Your bidding plan includes the items you wish to bid on in both live and silent auctions, your maximum bid, and special instructions for bidding. We will bid incrementally up to your maximum bid and/or following your special instructions, including live phone bidding for live items, a call if outbid for silent items for an opportunity to increase your maximum bid, no calls, etc.
Just sign up, receive your 2012 auction catalog, and we'll be in touch! We look forward making it possible for you to participate in our special event."

Advance absentee bids will be accepted until noon on Friday, August 10, 2012
Absentee bidders will pay a $25 absentee bidder fee, which includes an auction catalog, whether their absentee bid is the winning bid or not. Absentee bids may be submitted by mail, phone, email, or fax until noon on Friday, August 10, 2012. Bids will be executed for you by Penland auction staff, up to the price stated. In the event of identical bids, the bid received first will take precedence. You will be contacted on Monday, August 13, 2012 if you are successful, and will be invoiced for the purchase price and the cost of shipping.
Penland accepts cash, personal checks, MasterCard, Visa, Discover, and American Express.
Alternatively, you can choose to bid by phone during the live auctions on Friday and Saturday - these arrangements must be made in advance. An absentee bidder fee must be paid and a maximum bid stipulated. In the event that a larger maximum absentee bid is placed on the item, you will be called and given the opportunity to increase your bid. You must provide Penland with a telephone number at which you can be reached from 3:00 to 6:45 pm and 7:30 to 9:00 pm on Friday, August 10 and 10:00 to 11:45 am and 1:00 to 3:00 pm on Saturday, August 11. You will be called before the piece comes up for auction and your bids will be executed for you. You can click here to download an Absentee Bidder Form (PDF).
