Arbor Energy is striving for sustainability goals that balance present and future needs for ecosystem health, economic prosperity, and social well-being.  Arbor Energy, its customers, staff, partners, and community can positively impact sustainability.  We're in this together.

Arbor Energy's Triple Bottom Line strategy produces advantages for all of our stakeholders.  People TBL means treating employees well and investing in the community.  Planet TBL means a positive environmental impact from our processes and products.  Profit TBL means financial results that are in harmony with our People and Planet principles.

We're integrating sustainability principles across all areas of our company, collaborating with partners and monitoring education and research programs.  Here are a few of the highlights.

Arbor Energy's Real-time Fuel Oil Pricing Program enables customers to buy online at any time during the year when they feel comfortable balancing the risks and rewards associated with pre-pay and fixed priced heating oil contracts.  By eliminating paper contracts we've made it easier for customers to do business with us. This paperless process automates a mundane task and enhances the customer experience by freeing up our contact center staff to focus on unique cases.

In addition to offering highly efficient fuel oil heating system upgrades, we're developing a portfolio of alternative energy options that reduce greenhouse gas emissions through energy conservation and cleaner energy.  We've installed our first geothermal system and have plans to offer solar based systems in the near future.

Our partners have a sustainability culture. Pat Munger Construction is a LEED certified member of the Green Building Council. JRV Home Inspection Services provides energy audits for our customers. New England Construction applies thermal edge technology for window installations. East Coast Mechanical provides Energy Star approved air conditioning services.

Just about all of our communications with customers and partners is electronic.  Think about the time and paper savings that this produces.

Finally, changing our name from Arbor Oil to Arbor Energy is a proof of our commitment to sustainability.  It speaks loudly to the fact that we are in the home comfort business.  We do not want to suffer the same demise as buggy whip purveyors who did not view themselves as being in the transportation business.

Maintain Your Air Conditioning System
Be Comfortable, Save Money, Protect the Environment
Bruce Owen Homeowners can ensure a high level of comfort and proper AC system operation by installing quality filters and changing them regularly [especially to combat allergy problems]. Keep bushes and other materials away from the outdoor compressor. Avoid closing in-house supply air outlets to prevent system damage. Use a fin comb to straighten any cooling fins on the outside compressor. They are easily bent by storm debris or bumping by a lawnmower. Look inside the unit and make sure it's clear of leaves or anything else that might impede the fan.

The cost of an annual tune-up is recovered very quickly in monthly electric bill savings and reduced repair costs.

Energy Efficiency Calculator

If your central air conditioning system was installed before 2000, you will benefit from the operational cost savings from a new, high efficiency system.

Most air conditioners use electricity to produce cooling. The efficiency at which they produce cooling is referred to as a SEER number. SEER stands for Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio, and is a ratio of the amount of cooling produced (BTU) divided by the amount of electricity (watts) used. The higher the SEER, the greater the efficiency. This calculator will give you an estimate of the electricity you can save by upgrading to a higher SEER.

For example, upgrading your air conditioner from a unit with an efficiency of 6 SEER to one with an efficiency of 16 SEER will result in the use of approximately 70% less electricity.

Click here for an energy savings calculator that will enable you to see how much you can save each year with a higher-efficiency system.
Tax Incentive Assistance Program
Pattie Quaranto The Tax Incentives Assistance Project (TIAP) is sponsored by a coalition of public interest nonprofit groups, government agencies, and other organizations in the energy efficiency field.  It provides information about federal income tax incentives for energy efficient products and technologies.

Homeowners who purchase a qualified heating and cooling product between January 1, 2009 and December 31, 2010 are eligible for a tax credit equal up to 30% of the full purchase and installation price with a cap of $1,500.
