Fire Extinguishers 101

You should have at least one fire extinguisher in your home. It can be located in the kitchen, garage, furnace room or even your car.

The most useful and popular types are ABC which can be used for common combustibles (A) liquids and gases, and (B) or (C) energized electrical devices.

They can be found in most home improvement stores.

Always keep in plain sight.

To use one, remember PASS:
* P : Pull the Pin
* A : Aim at the base of the fire
* S : Squeeze the handle
* S : Sweep across the flame

Only use if the fire is smaller than a trash can and AFTER calling 911!

Not Too Late to Insulate

Not Too Late to InsulateThoroughly insulate areas from which heat is lost including your unfinished attic, between floor joists and against the walls in your unfinished basement.

Also, feel for air leaks around windows, bathtubs, fireplaces and electrical outlets. Caulk small leaks. Put plastic over old windows and begin budgeting the cost to replace such windows.

Are you Ready for Winter?
Energy Savings

Autumn is the perfect time to review your energy savings checklist. Take care of the inexpensive, simple things first such as energy saving light bulbs, sealing doors and windows, get all appliances checked and serviced, etc. For more information, click here.

AND
High efficiency systems
Consider larger investments such as upgrades to ultra modern and efficient furnace and hot water systems. If it takes more than five years to make your money back on this sort of an investment, consider other benefits in addition to the financial savings. Does it improve comfort, reliability, etc. Is it better for the environment?

I hope you found this information to be concise, timely and useful. Please let us know if you have a success story about how you saved money on energy usage. We'll post it on our website to share with others.  Your feedback is always welcome.

Sincerely,
Michael Toth
