What's Hot and What's Not!

August 2007

The word Bling is Not Hot.
According to Kanye West,"If you use the word 'bling' these days, you're unhip and totally out of style." The hip-hop star tells Complex magazine: "Only white people and older black people say 'bling' now."
(He doesn't tell us what we should use instead unfortunately.)

Apple is Hot.
Hence, anything preceded by an uncapitalized "i" is Hot.

Anyone out there been hearing about the iLimb?
Or, anything that incorporates an iPhone, iPod or other Apple technology is hot, too.

Prosthetics is Hot.
(See iLimb above)

One of the 14 Future Icon Technology areas, as described by DARPA Director Tony Tether before a US House committee is:
Prosthetics: Developing prosthetics that can be controlled and perceived by the brain, just as with a natural limb.

Green is Hot.
(Therefore, "eco-marketing" is too.)
35 million Americans regularly buy green products, according to research group Mintel. And research shows many folks will pay MORE for eco-friendly goods or service.

(I guess a solar-powered iLimb that you could accessorize with what was formerly known as "bling" would be uber hot!)

Blogging is Hot.
You know what I'm talking about.
In This Issue
Get Hot.
Get Hot.
Know your target audience.
Who are your most important customers, clients or prospects, and why?
Know what is important to them and address their needs and especially their WANTS.
(Hint: What's hot now?)

Nike makes shoes, shirts, sweatbands, etc., with places for iPods.
Do you make places for iPods in your prostheses, orthoses or products?
Why not?

If my daughter Eloise needed to wear a scoliosis brace, I can guarantee you she'd want the one with the iPod holder in it, even if she never even used it.  iPod=hot

Bamboo and Silver
You can't get any more eco-friendly than Bamboo or Silver.

Everybody in O&P has access to silver fiber products.
Right, Jerry?

But! Are you using them to eco-market?

(VitrA gets it. They've maximized their eco-marketing buzz by creating a glazing for bathroom porcelain products that contains silver ions to kill germs. Hot.)

If you are not maximizing your eco-marketing opportunities, you're missing out.
You don't want to miss out, do you?

Marketing Gold Star
To Chris Peregrine, CPO for the great article in the Cadillac News online.

Not only do they refer to him as a Certified Prosthetist Orthotist (and spelled correctly too!) they actually explain what a CPO does.  Read the whole article.
Changed the newsletter up a bit.
What do you think? Love it? Hate it?
