Yoga and Other Forms of Exercise
|
|
| |
Greetings!
Have you yet noticed how Yoga has enhanced all the
other physical (as well as mental) activities that you
do? Whether it's briskly
walking, running, surfing, or gardening, your body
probably feels better before, during, and after
partaking in that activity.
Like wise your yoga practice will feel better if you
have another form of exercise in your life. Any of
the above mentioned activities are perfect. Dawn
(one of our teachers!) incorporates running in her
life, Lonne goes to LA Fitness for the Cardio
machines and pool, Laura loves to garden, Shelly
loves country dancing. I started
surfing last summer and
love it, and also have picked up snowboarding
(maybe it's a
mid-life crisis?).
What I'm saying is, be active, use your god (or yoga)
given ability and have fun while you can. Be brave,
try something you never thought you would or
perhaps do something you use to love to do when
you were younger!! Here are some announcements:

Yoga Tools for School Teachers and Health Professionals
This workshop is for K-12 teachers, yoga instructors,
health professionals, parents and anyone who works
with children. You will learn how to use breathing
practices, yoga asanas, games and relaxation to
enhance classroom management and create a more
productive learning environment. The goal is to
support kids in learning to use Yoga Tools to de-
stress, be active and make good choices not only in
the classroom but in their lives. Barbara has been a
special day class teacher for the last 10 years and
has used yoga in her classroom. Realizing the positive
impact that yoga was having on her students,
Barbara became both Yoga Ed and YogaKids certified
and now leads Yoga Tools Workshop for LAUSD and is
involved several schools teaching yoga to children.

Deepen and Develop Your Personal Practice
We will explore the art of maintaining a personal
practice by addressing issues of motivation and self-
discipline. We?ll go into different established flows
and formats to uncover the logic behind these
systems. Included in this portion of the workshop will
be an examination of the Salutations and how they
can be customized to the individual to create a
soulful dance of body and breath. Following this will
be an exploration of intuition through the use of
blindfolds and ear plugs, moving from one posture to
another under the guidance of your own natural
perfection. Although students will be given a
resource packet to aid them further in their practice,
they are encouraged to bring pen and paper to make
note of postures and sequences which resonate with
their bodies. You will leave feeling confident and
enthusiastic about your personal journey through
yoga and be better able to utilize group classes and
future workshops to broaden your approach and
vision of your yoga experience. This event is open
to all levels and all styles. Sunday, August 27th
with Jeff Levin 2:00 ? 5:00pm: $25 pre-paid, $35 at
the door

Yvette is doing remarkably well. She
attended her
first yoga class this past Monday with Laura. Her
husband and sister have been instrumental in helping
her get around and take care of her son Dylan. She
will be around more, and I will send a note from her
to you very soon.
Please take care of each other during this intense
heat
and humidity. Stay calm and drink plenty of
water. Maybe go to the beach with your boogie
board or take a surf lesson, or go to the mall to stay
cool. Let's all practice using less electricity. I'm
sorry for all those suffering with no electricity at all.
5 Simple Rules to be happy. 1. Free Your
heart from
hatred. 2. Free your mind from worries. 3. Live
Simply. 4. Give more. 5. Expect Less
Staying active keeps you young! Peace and Blessings to you.
