Amazed Or Expectant?

A compassionate Jesus. The disciples. Over 5000 hungry people. "Should we go to town and buy bread for them?" (Let's see...if this were a TeenServe camp, we'd need over 800 loaves). "No, how many loaves do you have?" After some searching, they found five loaves, plus two fish. Jesus instructed them to take the five loaves and two fish and feed the people. Everyone ate until they were full. The disciples gathered twelve baskets of leftovers. NBD (That's No Big Deal for all you who don't know the lingo.)
"You guys go ahead...take the boat...I'll send these people on their way." Night came and the disciples were in the middle of the lake in a storm. Jesus sees them straining to row against the powerful wind, so he decides to walk out to them across the water. The disciples were terrified because they thought He was a ghost. "Don't be afraid, it's Me!" He got into the boat and the wind stopped. The disciples were amazed, because they didn't recognize the miracle that Jesus performed with the bread and fish. (Mark 6:52)
What? The disciples were amazed because they didn't recognize the miracles that Jesus did? The definition of amazement = A state of extreme surprise or wonder; astonishment. What makes you surprised? A special gift at Christmas? A letter from someone you don't normally hear from? Something that is out of the ordinary surprises most people.
It's hard to imagine why the disciples would be amazed or surprised at the things that Jesus did...He was with them all of the time!! Seriously? They had witnessed miracles on a daily basis! But they did not recognize the miracle that Jesus performed ...
Are you amazed when Jesus works in your life? You shouldn't be! Expect miracles. Expect Jesus to be with you.
Oh...after they got to the other side of the lake, the people recognized Jesus and began to carry sick people to wherever they heard He was. They begged Jesus to let them touch the hem of His garment. And whoever touched Him were made well. NBD. They expected it.
