IPL for Sun Damage Skin

Reverse Years of Careless Sun Exposure

The appearance of sun-damaged skin is well recognized in medical circles. It is different from changes seen with normal chronological aging. The very smooth, fine, pale wrinkling associated with aging (seen in the sun-protected areas of the skin such as the underarms) is different from the massive damage caused by the sun.

Changes are Multiple

Fine and coarse wrinkles are seen on sun damaged skin. There is a roughness to the skin and a laxity or looseness in advanced damage. Patchy or mottled dark patches of increased pigmentation are seen. Sometimes these patches become irregular and produce what are known as lentigos. In areas around the back of the neck a leathery texture and coarseness with deep lines is frequently seen. The skin my feel dry and scaly. In addition, chronic sun exposure can produce a thickened layer in the upper dermis known as solar elastosis, which gives a yellowish chicken-skin look. Some individuals will develop more blood vessels, known as telangiectasia's or broken blood vessels. If damages is severe, thinning of the skin and bruising may be seen, particularly on the hands or forearms.

IPL Treatments Can Reverse These Signs

Are there restrictions on my activity after treatment?

Most patients return to work or social activities right away. You can start exercising the next day. Makeup can be worn immediately. However, you must protect your treatment area from UV light, be it natural sunlight or tanning beds.
