  • A Bit of Home Decor: An Altered Hook!
  • Left over supplies from the March Classy Pak are wonderful for creating home décor projects like the cute towel hook shown here. All you need is a few scraps of paper, some left over embellishments and ribbon, letter stickers, good adhesive, acrylic paint, and an unfinished wooden hook. I got this flower hook at my local craft supply store for $1.

    1. Place the hook face down onto the back of the patterned paper and trace the flower shape onto the paper.
    2. Cut the flower out and cut a slit in the middle of it to slide over the top of the hook. The slit needs to be fairly long, but you will be covering it up with your photo. You will also need to cut a small hole at the end of the slit to wrap around the base of the hook.
    3. Apply the paper to the wood with a strong adhesive. I used my favorite tape runner.
    4. The next thing I did was paint the hook and outer edges of the flower with my blue paint. I wanted it to look shabby, so I didn?t worry about perfect coverage.
    5. I added my matted photo, flowers and ribbons, and ?title? to the flower base.
    6. For the final step I sanded the hook and added a bit of ink to the top on the hook.
    7. This will hang on the back of our bathroom door and would add a personal touch to any room in your home.

Wishing you a rainbow For sunlight after showers- Miles and miles of Irish smiles For golden happy hours- Shamrocks at your doorway For luck and laughter too, And a host of friends that never ends Each day your whole life through! Old Irish Blessing

I am the wind And you'd better watch out! I can run, I can fly; I can whistle and shout. I can tap on your window And howl at your door, Tug on your coat tails, Bellow and roar. But in March I'm the loudest; Look out for my might! For when you're not looking I'll steal your new kite. Jean Conder Soule

Oh, give us pleasure in the flowers today; And give us not to think so far away As the uncertain harvest; keep us here All simply in the springing of the year. Robert Frost.

  • How'd You Create That Layout?
  • What? by Shelly Boyd

    • Sassafras Grass Patterned Paper
    • Smiling Stripes Patterned Paper
    • Heidi Swapp Journaling Spots
    • Big Smiles Dimensional Stickers
    Other Supplies:
    • Transparency to print or stamp large flower
    • Optional white cardstock for matting your photo
    • Dark Blue Cardstock for background
    • White marker for doodling

    Instructions:

    1. Print your photo and crop leaving a little of the white border around it or if you already have your photo and it doesn't have a white border matte the photo with a white piece of cardstock. .
    2. Cut an 8" square of the Sassafras Grass Patterned Paper. To add the scalloped edge to the Sassafras Grass Patterned Paper I used an old Fiskars template but you could also use shaped scissors. Place the square on the background paper off centered slightly to the left..
    3. Add a border with a white pen around the outside of the scallop (an alternative technique would be to create a thin white cardstock scalloped border using a template or scissors or use paint to create a drybrush block behind the scalloped paper.).
    4. Adhere the photo offset to the right of the Sassafras Grass Patterned Paper.
    5. Cut a 1" x 9" strip of the Smiling Stripes Patterned Paper and tear a little off of both edges.
    6. Create a big flower either by stamping or drawing on a transparency or you could use clip art and print it from your computer.
    7. Attach the 1" x 9" strip to the bottom of the photo and add the flower to the bottom right of the photo and to the right of the 1" x 9" strip of patterned paper.
    8. Attach the 1" x 9" strip to the bottom of the photo and add the flower to the bottom right of the photo and to the right of the 1" x 9" strip of patterned paper.
    9. For my journaling I arranged the Heidi Swapp Journaling Spots under the photo so that I'd have lots of room to write.
    10. Attach the title to the center of the flower and add some of the Big Smiles Dimensional Stickers for a finishing touch.
