The Boardwalk at the San Dieguito Lagoon.
The Boardwalk at the San Dieguito Lagoon.
Join longtime Trails Committee Member Carol Carr at the San Dieguito Lagoon for an easy three mile round trip scenic walk down the Lagoon Trail and Boardwalk.

We'll begin the hike at the kiosk located on San Andres Drive in the cul-de-sac behind the Albertsons Shopping Center in Del Mar which is a unique vantage point and the closest access to the sensitive marsh area of the lagoon.  Along the way we'll see the wetlands restoration in progress, native bird species, and in the distance (and if you're up to going further) the viewing platform that was once the Grand Avenue Bridge. NO RESERVATIONS NEEDED.

CREST CANYON BIRDING HIKE
Sunday, June 27
8:00am - 11:00am

Join the San Diego Audubon Society at Crest Canyon.
Crest Canyon
Crest Canyon Park is one of several dedicated hiking areas within the expansive San Dieguito River Park. It is situated just south of the Del Mar Racetrack. The loop-trail is about 2 miles round-trip. It ascends beginning at the trailhead, rising from 62 to 311 feet in elevation. The narrow flat-bottomed canyon has coastal sage scrub and weedy-grassy patches with interspersed Torrey pines. More sage scrub; plus chaparral and more pines occur on adjacent protected slopes. This is a good bird walk for beginners.
From Interstate-5, exit at Via De La Valle and go west to Jimmy Durante Blvd. Turn left and proceed 1 mile, bypassing the racetrack parking areas. Turn left on San Dieguito Road and continue 0.7-mile to the trailhead. Park along the road . No facilities
This hike is sponsored by the San Diego Audubon Society.
