Sikes Adobe After The Fires . . .

Sikes Adobe Historic Farmstead
San Dieguito River Park

The San Dieguito River Park is reconstructing the Sikes Adobe, to return it to as accurate a replica of the previously restored structure as possible.  We are currently conducting additional archaeological testing, and will then begin to rebuild.

The new lumber and materials you see around the adobe walls support the original adobe core of the structure.  This shoring was made possible through funding from FEMA, after the Witch Creek Fire last October.  Rebuilding the house itself will be funded through insurance provided by the City of San Diego.

The concrete foundation at the southern end was installed during restoration, after lifting that end of the building up in order to build the foundation.  The lifted portions were then replaced. Current archaeological investigations are being conducted on Saturdays, as part of the fall semester at Palomar College.

Dr.Philip de Barros, Registered Professional Archaeologist and students of the Archaeological Certifcation program at Palomar are working at the Sikes Adobe in cooperation with the
 San Dieguito River Park.

Plans for the rebuilding have been drawn and submitted to the City of San Diego by IS Architecture, the architectural historians who researched and restored the Sikes Adobe from 2002-2004.  We will begin reconstruction in the next few months.
