March Well Armed Woman Profile
Trish Cutler Meet Trish Cutler. She is a fairly new shooter from Hudson, New York and brand new to carrying a concealed firearm. She began IDPA a year ago at her local club and initiated the Columbia Pistol Action League because she could not find any training that met her needs; nor a place that was close enough for her to participate on a regular basis.
Trish has two sons in the US Navy ages 27 and 25, two daughters ages 24 and 18 as well as two grandsons 2 1/2 and 1. She is both a certified NRA Basic Pistol Safety Instructor/ IDPA Safety Officer and Match Director of Columbia Pistol Action League.
She shares that "New York State is a little tough on gun laws and you cannot even handle a firearm until after you have been approved for your pistol license. Therefore, you don't handle a firearm at all during your basic pistol safety course. How ridiculous is that? I had a permit and had not fired a gun. I was very intimidated and didn't get my first gun till a year later and then didn't shoot if for months. My husband had no interest in guns and couldn't help me."
Trish is employed by Columbia County as the Pistol Licensing Clerk and has been issuing the permits for over five years now. Isn't it great to have someone like Trish to walk new shooters through the process?
Trish has created a very unique and exciting event happening this July in Hudson NY. "Secret Victory" a Womens' Concealed Carry Fashion Show on
July 21, from 6-10pm at the Churchtown Firehouse Banquet Hall in Hudson, NY
Trish Shares, "My goal in hosting the fashion show is to educate the women as much as I can in a banquet type setting. I'll have vendors and information tables, some special speakers such as a personal defense attorney to discuss the ramifications of using a firearm in self defense; our Sheriff and other police officers will give statistics and personal protection advice; and a couple of well known pistol action shooting experts (possibly Julie Golob!) as well as my very own pistol instructor, Keith Gibson from Season 4 Top Shot." The fashion show itself will be demonstrating the various types of holsters available specifically for women, how to wear them and draw from them. We will showcase women of all shapes, sizes and ages Finally, very KEY is to direct the women to places like 'The Well Armed Woman' for regular up to date information and support.
