SHFB's Driving Out Hunger Golf Tournament Raises $25,000
Congratulations to the SHFB for making this years Driving Out Hunger Golf Tournament the most successful tournament they have ever had. This years tournament consisted of 31 teams and included major sponsors such as Cargill, Chick-fil A, Walmart, Food Lion and many other local organizations. David Griffin could not believe the amount of donations and support they received this year. "The Food Bank is very grateful for all the donations and assistance we received this year. None of this would have been possible without the assistance of the golf committee, employees, sponsors and the volunteers. We are hoping that next year we can make this event even bigger and continue to grow. The more awareness we can raise within our community, the more we can help those in need." A special thank you for the all the volunteers who came out and assisted the SHFB with the event.

Head Start Salutes Mr. Tyson
During a routine morning patrol of the playgrounds at Southern Avenue, Mr. Jason Tyson discovered a cocked and loaded hand gun and money scattered along the premises. "I'm glad I was able to make this discovery so that no children were harmed," said Mr. Tyson. Apparently, on the night previous someone robbed the Family Dollar store located within close proximity to the center. The robber's escape route was through Southern Avenue's playground. Mr. Tyson was conducting his patrol of the playgrounds on the morning August 10, 2012 and made the discovery. Staff was able to locate video footage of a suspect on the premises and later forwarded a copy of the footage to the police.
