SAMS Messenger

Dear ,

Many of us are tuning in to the summer Olympics this month, watching world-class athletes compete for their countries in our favorite sports.  As we watch the Olympic flame burning throughout the games, may we all be reminded of a different kind of light that is being spread, the light of the world--Jesus Christ (John 8:12).  One way this light is being carried is through Christ-centered education.  SAMS missionaries are using education as a tool to equip the saints, prepare young adults to be agents of transformation in their communities, and to give hope to young children for a better future.

Education Sparks a Bright Future

By God's grace, Margot survived a very physically abusive situation and as a young child found a loving home at the Sagrada Familia Orphanage in 2001.  She now possesses a strong faith in Christ, is an excellent student and is engaged in learning English.  After placing first on the entrance exam out of 1,000 students, she is entering engineering school.  Despite her extremely traumatic and heartbreaking beginning, she has blossomed into a loving, trusting, young woman with a bright and hope-filled future.  Rooted in her faith, she wants to be able to help other abused and orphaned children in the future in some way.

SAMS missionary Kym McDaniel is developing a library in Arequipa, Peru that Margot and the other children from Sagrada Familia Orphanage enjoy.  The children are from all kinds of backgrounds.  Some of them have relatives who visit and some don't.  Kym's library is at San Lucas school where fifteen of the children attend so she gets to see them every day.  The other five are older and are enrolled in educational programs such as cooking school or engineering school.  They all attend San Lucas church on Sundays near the orphanage.  The library contains many books in English and Spanish which Kym has helped supply through her senders.  The children are hungry for more books!

Kym McDaniel
is a SAMS missionary teaching English as a second language in Arequipa, Peru.

Prayer Requests:

Please lift up SAMS missionaries Julie and Shaw Mudge and their family (Lydia pictured) as they grieve the passing of Julie's mom, Blanche Hamilton on July 15th.

We ask prayers for SAMS missionaries John and Ninfa Dixon as they grieve the passing of Ninfa's father, Leonardo Duran on July 28th.

Pray for travel mercies as the Dixons will soon be visiting the SAMS office before they return to Spain where they have ministered among Spaniards and the diverse international community.  Pray for Spain that the Lord will deliver the country from their economic troubles and that a revival would break out as the Lord's mercy is shown.

 Praise Report:

We give thanks for Stewart's successful mission to Bangkok, Thailand, and Phnom Penh, Cambodia.  The Society's growing partnership in the Gospel with the Diocese of Singapore and the Province of Southeast Asia was strengthened.  Additionally, we praise God for the ministry relationships between SAMS and the provinces around the world (and among the provinces themselves) that were furthered at the Global South Primates Conference on Mission and Network in Bangkok.

Thank you for praying for SAMS and your missionaries!
