SAMS Messenger

Dear ,

This week, as Americans, we will be celebrating our freedom and independence.  As we enjoy our hamburgers and hot dogs and picnics, over 1.4 billion people in the developing world are living below the poverty line.  SAMS missionaries are working to release people from the bondage of poverty by teaching and empowering them, so that they may know freedom in order to discover their unique talents, passions, and calling as ordained by God.

By working hand in hand with the church, the Good News of complete freedom in Christ is shared as these and other poverty alleviation projects are promoted.

Thank you for praying for SAMS and your missionaries.

In Christ,

Freedom from the bondage of poverty!

Freedom from the bondage of poverty can be achieved through education about nutrition and economic development.  Teaching people how to grow their own healthy food and how to cook it economically can be very empowering.   With the help of missionary Janine LeGrand, people from Kityedo, Uganda, made a carrot cake to show an easy and delicious way to get Vitamin A into their diet.

As much as they liked the carrot cake, the biggest hit of this class was how to make an oven.  These low firewood stoves reduce the amount of smoke inhaled and reduce the risk of children getting burned.  Another benefit is that they help families economically by saving on firewood and will even help reduce deforestation.  Below is a charcoal stove that Janine has made and is
teaching the Ugandans how to make.
