Pilates Terminology--Imprinted what?
Greetings LAB5 Lovelies! I can't believe we are approaching our one year anniversary, what an incredible year full of personal growth for all of us. One of the fun, and I must admit challenging parts of my job is that in any given class we may have very experienced Pilates practitioners, to someone who has never heard of, much less been near a Pilates class or Reformer. I realize this can be intimidating and it is a lot to take in.
I throw terms out in class that you may not always be familiar with, and you may think you are the only one who doesn't know what a "neutral pelvis" means, so you feel self conscious asking during class. Please always ask questions! I love hearing feedback, and although I may not always have the answers, I love doing research and sharing my finds with you. I have compiled a list of basic Pilates terms for you.
Imprinted Spine
Joseph Pilates advised his clients to lengthen their spines, often flattening the natural curve of their lower-backs, according to master Pilates teacher Romana Kryzanowska, who worked directly with Pilates until his death in 1968...

Savvy Fitness
Finish Strong!
What do you do when your muscles are shaking... you are questioning your ability to continue... and the trainer has just alerted you that there are 30 seconds left in this move?
If you have been at LAB5 Fitness for any length of time, you have likely faced this moment many times.
Our workouts are designed to approach (not actually achieve) muscle failure. The closer we get to maximizing the work capacity of the muscles, the more we stimulate the recovery response. The body goes to work building new muscle tissues and replenishing glycogen stores, and stays in a higher metabolism longer. There is a range of effort that is within our comfort level. If we never leave this range of effort, our strength gains and physical changes will be very slow. (This range, of course, is very appropriate when rehabilitating injury). The longer we spend outside our comfort zone, the more quickly our neuromuscular system (muscle fibers, nerves and brain) will find new connections to accomplish more difficult work. We develop more strength, agility, balance, power, and endurance. And of course, our body visibly changes...

Who knew?!
There are plenty of options when it comes to choosing eggs... but what's the right choice for you? It's time you decide!
Eggs are convenient, low-cost and packed with nutrition to support your active lifestyle, but with so many choices in the dairy aisle at the market, it's easy to get overwhelmed...
Types:
- Pasteurized: They have been treated with heat to kill potential salmonella bacteria. A good choice for recipes that don't require cooking, such as Caesar dressing; however, the process may reduce levels of certain vitamins.
- Omega-3 enriched: The result of feeding hens higher doses of foods rich in the fatty acid, such as flaxseed, marine algae and fish oil.
- USDA-certified organic: From chickens whose feed is grown organically, without the use of most synthetic pesticides and fertilizers. Hens must have year-round access to the outdoors and cannot be confined in cages.
- Cage-free: While the hens that lay these eggs aren't caged, that doesn't necessarily mean they have access to the outdoors. Many live on the floor of a barn or warehouse.
- Free-range: The hens have access to the outdoors. This may satisfy animal lovers, but it has no bearing on the eggs' nutritional content.
