Started at LAB5: October 17, 2011
Favorite workout move:
That's tough. I really enjoy any leg workout that doesn't involve lunges. I also like Long Spine and the various kneeling arm moves done from the carriage. I can say with certainty that it is NOT plank-to-pike or pushups.
Hobbies:
I'm a very regular skier, scuba diver, mountain climber, cyclist, and swimmer, but I'll try anything once - so that's gotten me into some interesting hobbies in the last few years. I've skydived, paraglided, trapezed, fought a faux-combat mission in an Italian fighter plane - and most recently, I've become an Ironman finisher (Coeur d'Alene 2011). When I'm not doing something active, I love to cook, drink wine, find new restaurants...generally anything relating to delicious food and time spent with friends.
Pets?:
I have one incredibly adorable and completely spazzy dog, Maxx. He's a two-and-a-half year-old, 65-pound rescue. My best guess on his breed is one part Flat-Coat Retriever, one part Black Lab, and several hundred parts Tennis Ball Crazy.
Anything else you'd like to share:
As someone who detests yoga (gasp!), I wasn't sure that mat or reformer pilates would be for me. When I was at minute five in my first reformer class and I could barely stand up because I was shaking so badly, I realized that there was definitely something to it! I'm getting better and stronger every week, but my goal is still to make it through one of Ron's Ridiculous and Torturous Ab Sets without stopping several times. Maybe next year!
Genevieve is the definition of a quintessential LAB5 community member; she's dedicated, kind, and fills every class she's in with a contagious energy. Not only is she in the LAB almost everyday, but she loves to share our community with her friends and family, which we are more than grateful for. We are so glad to have a lady of such high caliber at LAB5.
Thank you Genevieve, and congratulations!

Savvy Fitness
Strengthening vs. Toning
 | | Standing inner-thigh with bicep curls |
What is your goal when starting a new fitness regimen? What are the goals that motivate you to continue day after day, month after month? Many people are driven by cosmetic goals: losing weight, and toning muscles. The word "toning" is often used in the fitness industry. It is a popular word, and it resonates with people, drawing them in to your establishment, or to buy your magazine, but it also carries some misconceptions. Everyone wants toned muscles, right? This has caused fitness gurus to craft workout videos and regimens, cleverly-using the word "tone" to reach a designated audience for a specific response. People come and buy in droves. However, this overuse of the word has resulted in the misconception...

Founder's Corner Seasons Greetings
As we enter the holiday season, we continue to be humbled and excited by all the wonderful people we have met as a result of LAB5. We truly have the best customers and staff. The results for those who continue your workouts on a regular basis have been amazing. Toning, sculpting, balance, strength, range of motion, higher energy and flexibility. Wow!
Your many well wishes and testimonials have let us know that we are on the right track in moving forward as the fitness studio of choice in Seattle for 2012. Thank you so much!
Please get off to a fast start for the New Year by committing to workout at least three times a week at the LAB. Joseph Pilates once said "A few well-designed movements, properly performed in a balanced sequence, are worth hours of doing sloppy calisthenics or forced contortion."
We are very excited about the many possibilities that lie ahead for you and LAB5. All this just in eight months! Happy Holidays!
