Our food drive with Northwest Harvest is going fantastic, we've collected over 170 lbs, which is over half-way to our goal of 500 lbs. Please help fill the plates and homes of our community. We will continue to collect non-perishable items through the end of November. Thank you to all who have helped.

Pets? A grey and white, 1 blue/1 brown eyed spitfire of a dog, Willow. She is an escape artist who can open doors and jump out windows, and is always keeping me on my toes. A constant talker and too cute for her own good!
Anything else you'd like to share?: The minute I walked through the LAB5 Doors, I was hooked! I've been a gym rat my entire life, and LAB5 is top on my list. There isn't any other place that I can go that offers me a more dynamic and functional full body workout. I find it the ultimate balance between building strength while maintaining flexibility. Thanks LAB5!
When our trainers see Bethany's name in class--which can be a couple times a day--they always begin to grin. Not only does she bring a great energy into the studio, but the trainers also love trying their advanced movements with Bethany. She brings an immense amount of dedication and strength into LAB5--we wouldn't be the same without her.

Trainer's Corner
Stay limber between LAB5 classes

Tis' the season to be jolly, but it's also the season when some people tend to slow down a bit and get a little stiff. With a good stretching regiment you can avoid those early morning aching blues! My Stretch & Form class is just the cure! There are plenty of very easy stretches that you can do on your own time before bed to help you sleep better, and to wake up without feeling those kinks.
Here is a nice universal Stretch & Form pose that will help loosen up the levator scapulae, rhomboids and pectoralis minor:
1. On you hands and knees in Table pose, slide the right hand between the left hand and left knee. Slide the arm all the way out to the left so that the right shoulder and side of the head rest comfortably on the floor.
2. Inhale and reach the left hand up towards the ceiling. At first explore the posture with the arm, finding the place were you feel the deepest stretch, then stay there and reach out through the fingers. 3. Breathe and hold for 3-6 breaths. 4. To release: exhale the palm back to the floor and slowly inhale back to Table pose. 5. Repeat on the other side.
It's that simple! You'll be feeling better in no time! Enjoy!

Intensity vs. Form

Have you ever been in the middle, or near the end of a movement at LAB5 Fitness, and begin to struggle? We all have. These are the moments we are starting to get to muscle exhaustion, and our form begins to fail. It can be frustrating, because we feel like we see others around us continuing on just fine. And the nudging by the trainer can get us motivated to stick with it. What should we do? Should we push on, or continue to struggle with bad form just to finish out the movement and get that muscle burn? The answer lies in the common struggle between form and intensity. Let me first briefly go over the two principles.
Our workouts at LAB5 are designed around very fundamental principles of form; primarily Pilates. Holding the body in perfect alignment while stabilizing through the core (lower back, abdomen and hips) during movement builds true, functional strength. So often people build individual muscles in workouts, but there is no connection of movement through the core, which is the fulcrum of movement. Thanksgiving Day Thoughts
Thanksgiving is a day marked as a gesture of thanks and gratitude for all our blessings.
It is a time of festivity, family meals and reunions. Carved Turkeys, Mashed Potatoes/Gravy, Stuffing, Pumpkin Pie, Cranberry Sauce are just some the traditional dishes adorning the dinner tables in almost every house. A time for feasting, Thanksgiving Day epitomizes the holiday mood of people. Thanksgiving is a time for spending time enjoying life together with your family and friends. The day is also a time to show your gratitude and respect to your elders, friends, and your siblings. Thanksgiving is our favorite holiday. Please enjoy this very special day!
