Grilled Organic Peaches

Not only a delectable, sensible dessert--but it is quick and easy!
Ingredients:
Organic Peaches
Olive Oil
Rinse the peaches off, and cut them in half.
Brush lightly with olive oil.
Have BBQ on medium to low heat.
Depending on your BBQ, and the ripeness of the peaches it should take between 5-10 minutes. Once they start to lose their form they're done! I also sliced up some fresh strawberries.
Enjoy!

Trainer's Corner
Q&A with instructor Janna Judy
What attracted you to Pilates? I'd been doing typical gym workouts and outdoor activities for a long time, but I found my muscles bulk up really quickly and I was looking for something that would lengthen and strengthen my body. A few years ago Pilates had a big growth in popularity, so you couldn't pick up a magazine without noticing it was being practiced by some of the best bodies in Hollywood. When I began to seek out classes it seemed really elitist and expensive. I found a studio that offered group reformer/cadillac classes and I was hooked. I found I really wanted to learn Pilates, not just do it. I love the control, grace and mental aspect of the exercises.
What makes Pilates a great exercise for everyone? Anyone can benefit from improved core strength, and that is deffinitely the focus in Pilates. Moving through your spine in every direction will keep your body healthy and balanced. You will notice improvement in your posture and the way you carry your body through the day, not just during class. I recommend you start easy (TLC) and work your way up to the more advanced classes. There are so many layers to Pilates you can always find a challenge.
What makes you happiest as an instructor? When I see people make the "mind body connection" you see it finally click into place and they get it! It's really rewarding seeing people progress. Pilates is not an exercise you can go through the motions with, you really need to be present and concentrating on what you are doing, engaging some muscles while you relax others is not an easy task. Also I love to laugh so I try to have fun while teaching and hope that the clients can smile through their workout. My goal is for people to leave feeling better than when they walked in the door.
What do you like about working at LAB5? By far the clients! Honestly, I love and appreciate them all. Alan and Bonnie have done such a great job creating a warm and friendly enviornment, it's really unlike anywhere I've ever worked. Whether it's Susie baking us muffins, Jay sending a personal note, or giving Joey a hug as he heads off to Law school, it really feels like family here. I believe you attract what you put out, and LAB5 attracts awesome people! Also I must mention the equipment...our beautiful Balanced body reformers are amazing to work with.
What are your favorite exercises? I love short/long spine on the reformer, it has such a nice flow and feels really good. I really enjoy teaching the barre classes as well. I get to sweat and work with the class, we turn up the music and play ballet dancer....
Future plans?
I would like to develop an intermediate purist class for those that are progressing and would like more of a challenge.
Final thoughts?
Don't forget to breathe. Appreciate your body and focus on what it can do today.

Fat Blasting Snacks
Next time you're feeling a little grumble of hunger in between meals think twice about what you're reaching for. These snacks below are easy to have around, and easy to take on the go. Fish Oil. You've probably heard the buzz by now that fish oil is great for your body, but it's also a very powerful weight loss tool. Fish oils are a great source of Omega 3, which are nature's healthy fats. The International Journal of Obesity reported that the Omega 3 specifically in fish oils increases the number of fat calories burned each day AND significantly reduces insulin levels. What's great about fish oils is that they're easily accessible in the form of supplements and are found in salmon and tuna. Grapefruit. Ok, maybe not everyone's favorite fruit in the world, but it's absolutely loaded with antioxidants. Specifically, grapefruit contains a powerful antioxidant called naringenin, which has been proven to help the body use insulin more effectively. If your insulin levels are being managed naturally, your body learns to bypass the process of storing fat. Grapefruit is in season right now and there's a huge variety available at all your local supermarkets. Try half of a white grapefruit with your eggs at breakfast, it will give you a well-balanced energy kick! Green Tea. An underutilized fat loss tool if you ask me! Green tea has a high thermal effect on the body. It contains epigallocatechin which stimulates the nervous system and drastically speeds up metabolism. The Journal of Nutrition recently reported that their research has shown that people who drink green tea and exercise regularly burn more calories on a daily basis than those who exercise but don't consume it. It's estimated that 3 servings of green tea a day can naturally burn 100 more calories by itself. Not a bad deal over a month's time! Almonds. A lot of people get shy away from almonds because of their high fat content, but this superfood is truly a fat blaster. It's rich in protein and fiber which are critical for healthy digestion and metabolism. The fat in almonds actually in the form of monounsaturated fat which the body needs to properly burn stored fat; so don't be afraid of the food label. They're also a great way to naturally suppress appetite because they're so calorie dense, so you don't need a lot of them to get the fat burning benefits. Almonds are easy to find at any grocery store, but beware that you don't buy the brands with added salt or preservatives. The best part about all these foods is that the preparation time for them is ZERO. They are all foods that you can easily carry with you and consume them throughout the day as snacks. You'll find that integrating these foods into your diet will naturally help you crowd out the unhealthy choices that you may be making now, as there simply won't be room! Remember that even making small changes now will lead to substantial changes in time if you commit to them. (Source: achievefitness.com)
