Greetings!

Over the past month, LAB5 has settled into our space, and into our own--we have expanded our class offerings, adjusted the physical space, and tweaked our policies--all with you in mind. The walls of the studio are filled with incredible art, the classes are full of great people, and our community is becoming stronger everyday. We love sharing our space, and have decided to offer your first class at LAB5 for free, so bring your friends and let them feel what the LAB5 burn is all about.

Recently LAB5 launched a unique Community aspect to our repertoire, a place to share thoughts, get questions answered by our trainers, and simply to strengthen the friendships we have created. On our website you will now find a 'Community' tab which will take you to a shared space, a medium to share your fitness accomplishments, experiences or seek advice. The space is quite dynamic; offering information, photos, blog posts, videos, and the latest on LAB5 events.

In addition we've added weekly and monthly events, such as Friday evenings Work hard, play hard, join us for a 6:30pm class and stay for a chance to unwind from the workweek with a glass or two of wine. Or, join the 11am on Sunday for Brunch Crunch--followed by mimosas.

Do you have a summer vacation planned? Let LAB5 know, and we'd be happy to freeze your membership while you spoil yourself, and that hot bod you've been working on. We are excited for what the next month--and years--have to bring... hopefully more sunshine! Your comments, questions and ideas are always appreciated. How may we make your fitness desires come true?!

Intention and Integrity with Exercise

Sometimes we go through life in a state of non-awareness.  We are on autopilot and just going through the motions.  There's a time when we snap to and wake up, so to speak, and suddenly, we are highly attuned to what is going on.

Are you present during your workout, listening intently and thinking about what it really means to engage your core?  Or are you hearing the cues and just doing the exercises, looking at the clock to see if you're almost done?

To fully appreciate your exercise experience, not only performing the moves with precision and integrity, but also with intention.  Setting a goal for what you want to accomplish before you begin exercising will put you in a positive mindset so you can achieve....

Super Foods:

Spinach

Spinach

Most people don't realize it, but spinach is an excellent source of calcium-the mineral most famous for boosting bone and tooth health but also known to help maintain healthy blood pressure. Spinach also brims with the important antioxidants vitamin C and vitamin E, which reduce the oxidative stress in your body and benefit the cardiovascular and pulmonary systems. And this leafy green nutritional powerhouse is also rich in the antioxidant lutein, which is found in HDL or "good" cholesterol and may prevent LDL or "bad" cholesterol from oxidizing and promoting heart disease. In addition to the above laundry list of health benefits, spinach will also help protect you from macular degeneration, the leading cause of blindness in the United States today. That's because the heart-healthy lutein in spinach also helps protect the delicate macular cells in the eye from the effects of the sun's ultraviolet rays...

For the love of fitness! Where did you get those thighs?!

I'm all about inner strength, in both mind and body.  Therefore, this month let's focus on our inner thighs.

In my many years of training martial arts, aerobics and weights, I've paid little attention to my inner things, otherwise known as the adductors.   I've had strong quads and hamstrings, abs and butt, but why did I still have back pain?  I eventually discovered that I had weak inner thighs through training on the LAB5 Reformer.  The very machine that we use for our PowerLab/Purist Pilates and TLC classes.  My inner thigh work has me dancing through the streets feeling light in my legs and pain free.  I felt supported and long.

Most people don't make the leg adductor muscles a high priority in their training.  Strong adductor muscles help....
