It's a Time of Change

With the fall season upon us, we bear witness to how beautiful change can be in nature. In our own lives, most people find change to be, at the very least, unsettling. Others find it downright scary. Even when we know the change is certain to bring positive results, it is often still met with resistance. Let's remember that without change, progress cannot be made...there is no new growth. If we have the mind set of doing things simply because "that's the way it's always been done", we become paralyzed. We continue to make the same mistakes and cease to improve. We want to assure you that when MSB makes changes, it is not just for the sake of change. It is to fulfill our Mission and Vision statements. It is to provide industry leading solutions to empower educators to maximize their time with the children they serve.

It's a Time of Thankfulness

All too often we fail to recognize the little things in life that make it worth living. The day to day frustrations and hardships wear on us, making it easy to lose sight of the reasons we are doing what we're doing. We at MSB would like to take this opportunity to thank the school staff, parents and community members who strive to improve the lives of children every day. Your dedication and selflessness help the future generation to become successful, healthy, happy adults. Thank you for all that you do.

It's a Time of Giving

The holiday season seems to have turned into a time of stress over what to get for whom. It's difficult not to get drawn in to this mentality with all the gift lists, store sales and television commercials. In our desire to please the people we love, we forget that our most precious gifts are the ones that cannot be purchased. Educators give the gift of their compassion, time, knowledge and expertise with children and their parents...priceless gifts that will last a lifetime.

From everyone here at MSB, embrace change, be thankful for the little things, share your gifts with others and have a wonderful holiday season!

Audits - Just the Facts Please!

Fact:  To date, there have been no paybacks to Medicaid for school reimbursements as a result of recent audits in the state of Maine.  There seem to be many rumors circulating that would say otherwise, so we thought we would give you the facts as we know them:

  • There is one known state Medicaid audit of the 2010-2011 school year for one district.  This audit has been completed, and there were no paybacks for any findings.
  • There is one OIG (federal) audit currently being conducted at the Portland School District for the 2006-2009 school years for the School Based Rehabilitation Services program.  That audit is ongoing, and MSB is working closely with Portland in this regard.  This audit is likely to take months to complete.  At this time we don't know if the OIG will eventually expand this audit to include more districts, but that is certainly a possibility.
  • We are aware of one IRS audit of one school district not related to Medicaid or Medicaid reimbursements.  We understand that there may have been findings that resulted in some financial liability for the district, but the liability was not in regard to Medicaid.

Things to Watch For

PRODUCT UPDATES

Section 65 Related Service Option - Under the Billing Dates tab for Section 65, you will notice a drop-down titled "Related Service". We have added the option of "All" to this menu to allow users to add one record per Prior Authorization number.

Data Entry Clerk Role - We have modified the permissions for this role. Data Entry Clerks will no longer have the ability to submit/post sessions. This change was made to ensure we are maintaining the highest degree of data integrity and regulatory compliance.

CONFERENCES

Virtual Work Groups

MSB is preparing to offer and invite Lumea and Adori (formerly known as X Logs and Case-e) users to join us for virtual Work Groups.  These Work Groups will be designed to gather feedback about our products and allow our customers to collaborate and network as to practical implementation and application of our products.

Our goal will be to understand how our products may serve you better, understand possible changes or additions to the products and provide a forum for our customers to understand how other districts are taking advantage of Lumea and Adori.

Should you have any ideas, please contact Steve Courter.  Otherwise, stay tuned for more information!
