It's a Time of Change

With the fall season upon us, we bear witness to how beautiful change can be in nature. In our own lives, most people find change to be, at the very least, unsettling. Others find it downright scary. Even when we know the change is certain to bring positive results, it is often still met with resistance. Let's remember that without change, progress cannot be made...there is no new growth. If we have the mind set of doing things simply because "that's the way it's always been done", we become paralyzed. We continue to make the same mistakes and cease to improve. We want to assure you that when MSB makes changes, it is not just for the sake of change. It is to fulfill our Mission and Vision statements. It is to provide industry leading solutions to empower educators to maximize their time with the children they serve.

It's a Time of Thankfulness

All too often we fail to recognize the little things in life that make it worth living. The day to day frustrations and hardships wear on us, making it easy to lose sight of the reasons we are doing what we're doing. We at MSB would like to take this opportunity to thank the school staff, parents and community members who strive to improve the lives of children every day. Your dedication and selflessness help the future generation to become successful, healthy, happy adults. Thank you for all that you do.

It's a Time of Giving

The holiday season seems to have turned into a time of stress over what to get for whom. It's difficult not to get drawn in to this mentality with all the gift lists, store sales and television commercials. In our desire to please the people we love, we forget that our most precious gifts are the ones that cannot be purchased. Educators give the gift of their compassion, time, knowledge and expertise with children and their parents...priceless gifts that will last a lifetime.

From everyone here at MSB, embrace change, be thankful for the little things, share your gifts with others and have a wonderful holiday season!

Hot Topics

State Medicaid Audits

MSB continues to assist NH school districts with many ongoing State Medicaid audits.  The audits are currently focused on the 09-10 school year.  Areas of the most findings include lack of parental consent, lack of appropriate referrals and lack of proper credentials.  It is very important that your IEP teams address parental consent and proper referrals at the IEP team meetings.  Make sure that you are also checking credentials on an ongoing basis, especially when your students are placed at out of district facilities.

OIG Federal Audits

MSB is currently providing audit support to 29 out of 34 districts that are being audited by the Office of Inspector General (OIG).  These audits seem to be focusing on the question of whether or not a child received a service in addition to transportation on days that transportation was billed to Medicaid.  The OIG is likely to take the position that schools should only bill transportation on days that the child receives another covered service in addition to transportation.  This is contrary to historical state guidance.  We will continue to monitor developments in this regard and keep you informed as to any changes that may take place relative to billing for specialized transportation.

NH Electronic Signatures

Having been a number of weeks since we provided the last update as to electronic signatures, we are pleased to let you know that the Lumea (X Logs) process has been approved, and that we should be receiving written confirmation of that very soon.  Chief Legal Counsel at DHHS indicated in a recent email to MSB that "The meeting with DOIT and AG went well and they are satisfied with the electronic signature and procedures, etc. All we need is written confirmation from AG which I expect shortly."

MSB plans to make the electronic signature process available to districts in January.

MSB will provide ample training opportunities for administrators, Licensed Service Providers and other service providers including webinars, video/audio tutorials and on-site training if necessary.

We are pre-scheduling for on-site training sessions in January, so please feel free to pre-schedule a training with MSB by contacting Jen Surina at jsurina@msb-services.com.

Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Steve Courter.

Things to Watch For

PRODUCT UPDATES

Editable Forms - MSB's Case-e has a new name (Adori) and some great new features. Available for the first time, with our new editable forms option, districts can write IEPs directly to IEP forms that are familiar to teachers and service providers.  Please contact Steve Courter for more information regarding pricing and scheduling.

Data Entry Clerk Role - We have modified the permissions for this role. Data Entry Clerks will no longer have the ability to submit/post sessions. This change was made to ensure we are maintaining the highest degree of data integrity and regulatory compliance.  Please let us know if you have any questions.

Virtual Work Groups

MSB is preparing to offer and invite Lumea and Adori (formerly known as X Logs and Case-e) users to join us for virtual Work Groups.  These Work Groups will be designed to gather feedback about our products and allow our customers to collaborate and network as to practical implementation and application of our products.

Our goal will be to understand how our products may serve you better, understand possible changes or additions to the products and provide a forum for our customers to understand how other districts are taking advantage of Lumea and Adori.

Should you have any ideas, please contact Steve Courter.  Otherwise, stay tuned for more information!
