AHCCCS Making Progress in Processing 2011 EHR Incentive Program Attestations

AHCCCS is making significant progress in processing 2011 eligible professional (EP) attestations under the Arizona Medicaid EHR Incentive Program, according to Lorie Mayer, Medicaid HIT Coordinator.  EP attestations for the calendar year 2011 were accepted through the end of April 2012, allowing many more practices who adopted EHRs in 2011 to submit their attestation information but also creating an attestation processing delay.

The Arizona EHR Incentive Program has registered a large number of providers and hospitals. To date, more than 1,600 EPs have registered and attested for the Arizona Medicaid EHR Incentive Program. Since incentive payments began, AHCCCS has paid over 640 providers more than $13 million, resulting in improved care coordination in Arizona.  AHCCCS anticipates that hundreds more EP attestations will be validated and paid in the next several months, Mayer said.

Until recently, AHCCCS had been using 90 days of hospital-based encounter data instead of a full year of data for EP attestation.  AHCCCS has responded to this required change by updating its validation process and adding staff in order to reduce delays.  AHCCCS continues to implement IT systems changes and upgrades to enhance the processing of EP attestations and will have its meaningful use attestation system in place this fall for the program's second-year payments.  Regular updates and more detailed information can be found on the AHCCCS website at  http://www.azahcccs.gov/EHR/MeaningfulUse.aspx.
