When Do I Really Pull the Plug?
6 minute video I incessantly hear docs lament that their financial planner, CPA, or broker tells them to work "a couple more years." Whether the doctor has $5 million saved at age 60 or only $300,000 at age 70, the mantra is "Work a couple more years." And after those two years? "Well, in this financial environment, it would be wise to work a couple more years."
Dentist Bottom Line: I'm so sick of those five words! This video provides insights from real retired dentists on factors doctors need consider before "cutting the cord." |

T. Boone Pickens and Our Energy Future
19 minute video
This is a longer video, yet Pickens is always entertaining.
Pickens points out that our national security has relied on energy, and in particular oil, for the last 100 years.
He provides a brief energy history, then discusses what he calls "our decision point." Where does the US go for energy in the next 50 years? His choice--- natural gas.
Dentist Bottom Line: Sure, Pickens has investments in natural gas. Is he selling us? Is it safe? What about fracking? Find out in this fun video.

How to Invest in Six Minutes: Burton Malkiel 6 minute video Take off the glasses and I'll look just like this guy in about 10 years! Burton Malkiel wrote the modern Bible of investing, A Random Walk Down Wall Street, in 1973. It still stands as a best practice in investing. He comments on where to invest in the second ten years of the Millennium. Bottom LIne: Malkiel points out that index funds out-performed active investing during 2000-2010. Also, if one invested beyond the S&P 500, with bonds and international stocks, one did quite well during the "lost decade." I sure did!
Burton's latest book, The Elements of Investing, is short, sweet, and at first glance, way too easy. Yet this Princeton faculty member has a simple elegance. The book is a classic.
And Malkiel also answers my emails! |
Money and Teens
2 minute video
Jill Schlesinger provides quick insight on how to talk money to teens. Checking, credit cards, how credit history might provide or deny a teen a job, and more are discussed.
Dentist Bottom Line: I've been harping for years: the more kids know of family finance, the better prepared they are for real life. Let them know the good and the bad.
This video is a good starting point. Have your teens watch. It's only two minutes.....heck, they may watch the whole thing and it provides parent/child talking points. |
"Dr. Doom" on the Euro-Zone
5 minute video
Dr. Nouriel Roubini, the economist most often called "Dr. Doom," provides insight on the "Euro-zone slow-motion train wreck." He is a respected economist with crisp insights.
Roubini thinks Greece will definitely leave the Euro along with Portugal and Cyprus. Spain? Maybe. All will happen slowly over the next several years, not months.
Dentist Bottom Line:
How does this affect Americans? In both the summers of 2010 and 2011, our market has corrected because of European pranks. And it seems the same is occurring this summer.
Roubini does predict US growth of 2% this year, right along with mainstream economists, yet says to watch out in 2013 with possible mounting problems in Europe and more housing foreclosures reaching the market in the US.
How is he invested? A big surprise! Worth watching to find out!!
