The newsletter is finally back! At least until I move to Sedona and worship rock aliens.
I have had very positive input from a core of about 50 doctors with a consistent readership of about 200. Out of 120,000 dentists in America, though, I'd like to reach many more than 200 on a regular basis.
What have you asked for more of? More current videos from the experts on super-current topics. Your wishes shall be granted.
Since my last newsletter in late 2011 I've heard increasingly sad stories of doctors and their financial woes made worse by paying attention to the media and friends. The stock market has gone way up, yet many dentists sat out the huge gains.
Most of you guys that read this newsletter know how wealth is really created and how it's kept. But you are in the minority!
Docs need to know how real wealth feels. It isn't about fine dining, multiple homes, or palatial parties. It certainly can be, yet most often it's about contentment and doing what you want every day. That may be found in your practice, in volunteer service, at the golf course, on the internet, hanging out with old farts at Denny's, taking courses at a university, or teaching at a dental school. In my case, it's beating up my body skiing in the winter and mountain biking in the summer, along with writing financial detritus for dentists.
If the videos prove popular, I may be able to provide newsletters more often, possibly once a week.
This time, I'm providing five short videos. Just click on the pictures and you'll at least have some entertainment between patients. Please provide feedback on the worth of this model. I'm at drcarlsen@gmail.com.

What Does a Dow of 13,000 Really Mean?
Click on the photo above to see a 4 minute video. The Dow has moved up 20% since October 2011. This CBS Money Watch video speaks of a new optimism. Is it justified? Should everyone pile into stocks now?
Dentist Bottom Line: The stock market is always forward-looking, so we may expect things to look better in the coming months. Yet, Iran and Syria may change things quickly at any time.
Keep diversified with fixed income along with equities.

Wise Words from Warren
 |
|
This is 8.5 minutes of Warren at his best.
Warren covers:
- Competitive advantage and capitalism
- Your money at work
- Philanthropy
- How much debt a country should have
- Wealth disparity
Dentist Bottom Line:
Here's a guy that can dine with kings, jet anywhere on a moment's notice, dress beyond Gaga if he wants, and dump on us plebes like Rush, Howard S., and the Donald.
Yet he lives in Omaha, eats at McDonalds, is a truly nice person, and is committed to America's educational future.
Listen up and learn!

Why 2012 is Like 1988
Click on the above logo for a 2 minute video.
Barry Sine describes well how incredibly similar 2012 may be to 1988. If it is, might we expect the S&P 500 to advance 20%?
Dentist Bottom Line: It's a presidential election year. Only once since 1940 has the market had a double-digit decline, which was 2008. There have been seven presidential election years which have seen double-digit gains.
Is it different this time? I refuse to align with any political party, yet Obama's looking pretty right now.

How Much Money Do I Really Need?

How much is enough? When do you take less risk? Swedroe and Pascal's Wager provide explanation.
Dentist Bottom Line: How much do you need? $2,000,000; $5,000,000; $10,000,000? When do you take some risky chips off the table? For further reading, take a look at Swedroe's The Only Guide You'll Need For the Right Financial Plan (2010).
