What's Happening in the IAPSC?
Grassie Receives ASIS Presidential Award Rich Grassie, CPP, received the 2010 ASIS Presidential Award for Merit at ASIS in Dallas. ASIS President Joseph R. "Bob" Granger, CPP, chose to recognize the contributions of "true educators" and to honor those that have taught for ASIS for many years. Granger said that educators like Rich make a significant commitment and give of themselves personally.
Do Security Officers Deter Crime? No Studies Found.
A literature search was commissioned by the IAPSC Forensics Committee to determine whether there has been any definitive study published on the effectiveness of security officers in deterring criminal activity. Wheatley Joins IAPSC Board Ken Wheatley, CPP, has been appointed by President Norman Bates to serve on the IAPSC Board of Directors until April 2012. Wheatley also currently serves as Chair of the Member Benefits Committee and has been a member of IAPSC since 2001.
Nebraska Court Case Seeks Expert Witness An attorney in Lincoln, Nebraska is seeking an IAPSC member as an expert witness for a lawsuit against the Public Elementary School system. The case involves the assault of a student by an outsider trespassing on school property. Please contact Ingrid Vinci at ivinci@ecsofcolorado.com by November 14 for more information.
SSC Pre-Seminar 2010 a Success This year's Successful Security Consultant pre-seminar intensive was held prior to the ASIS Annual Seminar in Dallas. Educators included IAPSC members Frank Pisciotta, Rich Grassie, Elliott Boxerbaum, Norman Bates, Jim Clark,Dave Aggleton, Ron Heil, and Karim Vellani. The highest rated topics included: "Back-of-the-House Mechanics", "The Business of Security Consulting: 101 to PhD to CSC", and "Completing the Assignment".

· IAPSC Member, John Strauchs, CPP has contributed to a new book, "Security in 2020" published by ASIS International. John's contribution is a chapter regarding convergence of IT and security and is based on a survey he did jointly with Security Management Magazine.
