Illini Band High School Championships, Oct. 22 
Marching Illini
Held on the turf of Memorial Stadium, this event features top High Schools as they compete for the ultimate glory of champion of the 2011 Marching Illini Championships.
 
Gruesome, Gory and Ghastly Ghosts and Ghouls, Oct.29

This afternoon family event for kids in grades K-6 will feature multicultural ghost stories told in the Spurlock Museum's galleries.  The children will leave with bags of candy to start their trick-or-treating off right.

Get ready for a spook-tacular Halloween season this year in Champaign County!  We have events for all of your whims, whether you're looking for something family-friendly or looking to test your limits and scare yourself, we've got plenty in store for you.  From ghost stories to mysteries and even a traditional Harvest Eve celebration, you'll be able to satisfy your Halloween spirit this year.  So get ready Champaign County, it's time to make some memories!

Mystery at the MuseumOct. 28-31 

 

Uncover the truth behind scary legends during the family-friendly Mystery at the Museum event taking place at the Orpheum Children's Science Museum! Join fearless archeologists on an interactive journey, where myths surrounding monsters, mad men and scary Halloween lore will be served up and busted.  

This event is hosted in conjunction with the Mystery at SoDo Theater Haunt for mature audiences.  


Come watch some of the best long distance runners as they compete for Big Ten Gold in both the individual and team championships.  Runners from all over the Midwest will compete on the trail of the University of Illinois' Arboretum which covers over 160 acres.  This unique and tough course with its many turns will test the heart of a champion as teams and individuals of the Big Ten will be getting geared up for the NCAA Championships in Terre Haute just two weeks after conference.

A Homer Harvest Eve, 

Oct. 29  

 

Come celebrate fall and relive the excitement of a traditional autumn harvest eve complete with hayrack rides, pumpkin decorating, and traditional treats around the campfire at the North Peninsula of the Homer Lake Forest Preserve. With stories that bring to life the rich natural and cultural heritage that makes Homer so unique, this celebration will remind you of what autumn is all about. Discover your place in history, and join us for an evening to remember.

Participate in a holiday tradition at the Krannert Center with scary stories, creepy costumes, and boo-rrific brass tunes.  On top of hearing some wicked music, make this event extra fun by dressing up in your Halloween costume and entering yourself in the costume contest!  Fun for all ages, this event will have you singing Halloween tunes to yourself and is guaranteed to put you in the mood for some trick-or-treating.
