"All Quiet on the Western Front"
Sept. 10   

Head to the Historic Virginia Theatre September 10, for the classic film, "All Quiet on the Western Front."  A young soldier faces profound disillusionment in the soul-destroying horror of World War I.  Show times are at 1pm & 7pm and tickets are only $5.  BONUS: The Virginia just installed their new marquee so take a minute to see it in person.

Growing Up Wild Garden Harvest,
Sept. 19

Preschoolers and their adults are invited to the Discovery Garden to harvest some of the veggies we planted earlier this spring and help us put the garden to bed for winter. Dress for the weather, and be prepared to get a little dirty! $5 per child. Registration is required by Sept. 16; (217) 896-2455 or shampson@ccfpd.org.

In case you haven't heard, Champaign County is host to some of the greatest musical events in the region.  With our incredibly diverse culture and hip artistic community, we celebrate the arts every chance we get.  This week we're excited for Ellnora The Guitar Festival, an internationally acclaimed event that will take over Krannert Center for the Performing Arts this weekend.  With events for the entire family plus free concerts (yes, we said FREE) and incredible performers, this is one festival you won't want to miss.
And, from sports to festivals to outdoor activities, it's a wonderful time to enjoy Champaign County and the simply gorgeous weather.

Ellnora The Guitar Festival Brings Internationally Acclaimed Artistry, Sept. 8-10    

 

Feel the heat of the amps and the thrumming of the picks when the one and only ELLNORA returns in 2011.  On September 8-10, we'll welcome guitar giants for a boisterous weekend loaded with free events and family fun.  Krannert Center for the Performing Arts will be abuzz with internationally acclaimed musicians for this biannual festival.  Families will enjoy hair braiding, temporary tattoos and guitar pick jewelry making at the opening night kick off party.  Don't miss your chance to be a part of this history making event!

Savoy Orchard Days Returns For Its Second Year of Fun in Colbert Park, Sept. 16-17  

This year marks the second annual Savoy Orchard Days Festival at Colbert Park in Savoy.  This year the festival will feature favorite local bands performing live on stage, carnival rides for the kids, a beer tent for the adults and dozens of vendors to enjoy.  The car show on the grounds is always a treat to browse throughout the weekend.  And, if you're feeling ambitious, come out early for the 5K race.  As the weather cools off, it's the perfect time to enjoy being outside celebrating the end of summer fun, so head out to Savoy Orchard Days.

Spurlock Museum WorldFest Celebrates an Array of Cultures, Sept. 10

 

Get seven performances for the price of one!  Spurlock Museum's WorldFest event will feature a variety of performances from around the world, including Balinese dance, African percussion, U.S. Folk Music, World Fusion of Chinese Music and Jazz, and Brazilian martial arts.  Craft activities will be available for all ages and festivities begin at 12:15pm and end at 4pm.  This event is supported in part by the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency. There is a suggested donation of $5.

Fighting Illini Volleyball Will Host Big Ten/Big East Challenge, Sept. 16-17
         

 

The highly ranked Fighting Illini Volleyball Team will raise the roof in Huff Hall September 16 and 17 when they host the Big Ten/Big East Challenge.  Participating Teams Include fellow Big Ten school Purdue, NCAA qualifier Cincinnati, NCAA qualifier and former Illinois Assistant Anne Kordes' Louisville Cardinals!  The excitement of Illini Volleyball is something that can hardly be described, but must truly be felt.  Huff Hall pulses with excitement when these talented athletes take the floor and wow their fans!
