OUTSIDE at the Research Park, July 8 Del Castillo

Are you ready for a supercharged night powered by "Latin music's romance and rock's grit" (Billboard)?  Del Castillo rips into the night with driving flamenco rhythms and guitar lines laced with the Latin blues.  The Corn Desert Ramblers will lead off with a rousing mix of traditional bluegrass, newgrass, and quick-picking style.  Head outside to Research for this lively evening of music beginning at 6:30pm.

Downtown Champaign Streetfest, July 9 musician

July 9th the streets of Downtown Champaign will be pulsing with great live music at the second Streetfest of the summer.  Schedule:
7-9pm Cassandra & the Gravel Road Band (Rock)
10pm-12am Fools for Rowan (Rock).  Don't miss a great night outdoors in this lively nightlife district!

Happy Birthday, Spurlock Museum! July 9

Help celebrate a milestone for one of Champaign County's outstanding cultural attractions!  Eat birthday food from around the world. Play international games for all ages. Make a colorful birthday card for the museum. Stamp a passport as you explore the world in our galleries. Listen to the powerful drumming of JASC Tsukasa Taiko (1 and 2 PM). Celebrate donor Fred Freund and the opening of the Campbell lobby exhibit Warriors, Guardians, and Demons. Hear storyteller Dan Keding bring the exhibit to life with tales of its figures (3:15 PM).  FREE admission.

The 4th of July, the quintessential summertime celebration, is right around the corner and there are some great ways to celebrate throughout Champaign County.  We've got some of the best fireworks displays in the state and lots of chances to see them.  Pack up the family and your blankets and lawn chairs and take advantage of all the activities!   

And, once the celebrating winds down there are even more ways to have fun.  Live outdoor music is always happening all around the county and the best part is that it's FREE!  Have a very happy 4th of July!!

  

The Champaign County Convention and Visitors Bureau office will be closed on Monday, July 4th holiday.

Celebrate the 4th of July in Champaign County!  

    

 

Champaign County sure knows how to celebrate the 4th of July!  From fireworks to parades, 5K races to live entertainment, there is no shortage of ways to celebrate the independence of our fine country.  This Saturday, July 2nd, head to the Rantoul Airport for the Firecracker Classic for the Rockin' the Runway 5K, Feudin Hillbillys, car show, inflatables, fireworks and more.  On Monday, don't miss the Freedom Fest: Light up the Lake at Lake of the Woods Forest Preserve from 3-10pm.  And, of course, the Champaign County Freedom Celebration kicks off on Monday at 10:30am with the Youth Run and 5K races followed by the parade at 1pm and the fireworks and family fun entertainment at 7pm.  Join in the 4th of July fun!

Historic Farm Days Returns to Penfield, IL, July 7-10
 


Farm equipment enthusiasts won't want to miss the featured Oliver Heritage tractors and equipment on display during Historic Farm Days, hosted by the I & I Antique Tractor Club.

The prestigious Historical Construction Equipment Association's 26th Annual International Convention and Old Equipment Exposition will have continuous demonstrations of impressive one-of-a-kind machinery.  And, the American Truck Historical Society will show a rarely seen glimpse of automotive history with many trucks on display.

All weekend long, people of all ages will enjoy sanctioned and "kiddie" tractor pulls, square dancing, live country music, parades, antiques, fireworks, food and more.  A blacksmith shop with daily demonstrations will be set up along with an original log cabin.  Crafts will be on display with other historical items in the I & I Museum.  A trading post will be open daily with various collectibles available.  And there will be food, food and more food!  Fried chicken, ribs, barbecue, ice cream and even a fish fry - enough to keep visitors coming back each day for another taste.

Gill Factory Vault Offers Exciting Entertainment, July 1 & 2   

 

 

Gill Athletics will host its 6th Annual Factory Vault and Symposium at their state-of-the-art headquarters in Champaign, IL, on July 1-2.  Elite vaulters like Olympians Derek Miles and Erica Bartolina, US National Champions Jeremy Scott and Mark Hollis, plus nine others will be competing for $6000 in prize money.  Visitors, spectators and competitors from around the country are invited to this unparalleled two-part event that combines instruction, practice and fun for the whole family.

The Pole Vault Symposium kicks off the event on Friday with a Gill factory tour and an Elite vaulter question & answer session where technical aspects of the sport will be taught with hands-on instruction for athletes, coaches and parents alike.  Speakers include collegiate coaches Lane Lohr and Bob Phillips along with USATF Master Coach Greg Hull.  Participants will end the night with a BBQ at the factory.

The Factory Vault, the main event, will run all day Saturday with a Deejay, three board runways, pole raffle and more.  The open and masters competitions will start in the morning and continue throughout the day with the featured Elite Vault competition scheduled for 12:00pm.  The vault competition is free for spectators and open to the public.

International Visitors Love Champaign County's Agritourism Options  

    

 

Inquiries have been pouring in to the Champaign County CVB lately from international visitors from places like Canada, Portugal, South America and Brazil.  With the Farm Progress Show in central Illinois just around the corner, it's no wonder that  so many international farmers and agricultural professionals want to visit Champaign County.  We are currently working with a group of 150 Brazilian farmers who would like to experience our agricultural sites and attractions.  Their entire 4-day, 3-night stay in Champaign County would feature stops at some of the more than 577,066 acres of farmland, 400 farms with over 500 acres and highlight high-tech farm machinery and places like the National Soybean Research Laboratory.  It's true that international agricultural groups love visiting Champaign County!
