Update - Training Reform Symposium
| | Meet the Volunteer Coordinator
SAFE member Chuck McConnell has agreed to be the volunteer coordinator for the Pilot Training Reform Symposium in Atlanta on May 4-5, 2011. McConnell came to flying in the late 1970s, earning his private certificate in September 1978 in NJ. He went on to earn commercial and CFI certificates, as well as multi-engine land and single-engine sea ratings. Along the way, McConnell tinkered with sailplanes and paragliding. Though without an airplane at the moment, he has owned a PA-28R-201, a C-170B, and a 7AC. McConnell's "day jobs" have ranged from association management to public broadcasting at six stations stretching from Washington, DC to Fairbanks, AK. "Alaska was the best," he says, adding, "I had my C-170 then and I taught part-time at an Army flying club." McConnell recently returned from Peace Corps service in Eastern Europe and has settled in Portland, Oregon. Assisting McConnell will be SAFE member Michael Phillips of Ventura, CA. Phillips has been a Master Instructor since 2008 and has a diverse background personally and professionally. He has been a CFI since 1975 and has taught in a number of regions of the country.
