| | #1 - Teaching Stalls: Failure to Maintain Airspeed

A committee of SAFE volunteers led by Pat Knight and Russ Still has been hard at work creating the first in a series of quarterly PowerPoint presentations specifically for the FAASTeam's CFI/DPE Workshops. The presentations provide a platform for instructors and examiners to interact with each other to discuss areas that the FAA has identified as needing improvement in order to reduce the fatal accident rate.
The first presentation in the series is entitled, Teaching Stalls: Failure to Maintain Airspeed and should be appearing at a FSDO near you in the very near future. Many of these workshops will be led by SAFE members who have volunteered their time and expertise to this important project. When you receive an announcement for this or any of the other planned workshops from the FAASTeam, please make every effort to attend. Encourage fellow instructors and your favorite DPEs to attend as well.

| Audio/Visuals Provide Additional Insight into SAFE
The SAFE website now has a Videos & Podcasts page located under the About SAFE menu tab. The page currently has an embedded video of the EAA TV interview conducted with SAFE Chair, Doug Stewart during this year's AirVenture. Also included is a link to an Aero-News Network podcast recorded during AirVenture. Audio/visuals such as these provide other avenues for members and prospective members to learn about our organization. |

From 12 Stall/Spin Myths Exposed by Rich Stowell, MCFI-A: Myth #11: As a whole, flight instructors are well qualified to teach stalls and spins.
Reality: Even though flight instructor applicants receive logbook endorsements certifying that they are competent to teach spins, published studies and anecdotal evidence reveal that flight instructors nationwide tend neither to be well trained in stall/spin dynamics, nor to have sufficient hands-on experience with spins to be able to provide meaningful spin training.
