FAA Safety Briefing
September/October 2010 Issue

The September/October 2010 issue of FAA Safety Briefing magazine is now available online. According to the FAA, this issue focuses on "proficiency and its absolute importance for pilots and AMTs" and provides tips on developing a personal improvement plan, addresses getting back to flying after an absence, gives suggestions on how AMTs can keep their edge, and more.
New Online Course on Taxi Procedures
Entitled "Line Up and Wait - LUAW"

The current revision to this online course from the FAA Safety Team incorporates major procedural changes, including the language change from "taxi into position and hold (TIPH)" to the new "line up and wait (LUAW)". The course reviews and considers:
  • Best Practices during taxi operations,
  • Air Traffic Control Procedures and Phraseology,
  • Pilot  responsibilities,
  • Awareness of airport markings and Pilot responsibilities re: Precision Obstacle Free Zone,
  • Part 91 and Part 135 Single-Pilot Procedures during taxi operations,
  • Use of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) during taxi operations, and
  • Best Practices for avoidance of runway incursions.

Enhancements to FAASafety.gov

Several nice upgrades and enhancements, plus a couple of corrections, were launched to FAASafety.gov on August 31, 2010. You will like them!

The change to the FAASTeam Representative training records will require all FPMs to review the record for their Representatives and enter any dates that are missing.
