SAFE Participates in FSANA Convention

General Sessions were "informative and educational"
The Flight School Association of North America held its first convention in St. Louis, MO June 16-18. SAFE had a booth and Chair Doug Stewart participated as a panelist during one of the sessions.
Stewart reports: "I feel my time spent at the FSANA convention was time well spent. It was an excellent opportunity to expose another segment of the aviation education community to SAFE, and I feel that those in attendance who did not know about us went home with a positive impression of our organization. FSANA is a new organization, but so are we. There is no doubt that the flight school industry needs an organization to represent them, and I think FSANA can fill that need. They have a strong set of by-laws to ensure that the organization will be able to endure. They also have a national advertising campaign that will be rolled out soon that will offer flight schools a win/win opportunity. Since aviation educators are an integral part of the flight school community, SAFE should consider joining FSANA, or at least look into partnership opportunities.

SAFE Member Teams up with "Dude Perfect"

Incredible Basketball Shot Made from Super Cub
For something a little different, member Ken Wittekiend reported that he was called to be part of a television commercial that involved dropping a basketball through a hoop from his Cub.
"I thought the likelihood of making it was somewhere between slim and none," Wittekiend said. "We set up in a nearby cow pasture. With visibility less than ideal, a steady rain falling and the wind beginning to pick up, 'Dude Perfect' Tyler and I took off for what I thought would be a long day of missed shots and expensive efforts. We lined up for the first pass, Tyler let 'er rip, and I pulled the Super Cub up into a climbing turn. Our first attempt missed -- badly. As I turned for the second pass, the rain picked up, making it painful for Tyler to extend his arms outside the window for the drop. I made a slight adjustment and the shot was away. I asked, 'How close were we?' 'Dude, it went right in the goal!' came the excited response. Dude Perfect made the shot on the second try!"
The video has had over 420,000 views already on YouTube. Many have commented that the shot was faked, but Wittekiend assures that it happened just the way he described.

SAFE Favicon Debuts

Mini-Logo Appears in Web Address Bar
Favicons are the small icons that appear next to bookmarks and in the address bar of most browsers. SAFE now has its own favicon -- a minor detail perhaps, but a detail we haven't overlooked.
