It's all about the Marketing! Professional Appearance
When you have someone come to your office, whether it's a salesperson from Staples or the tech from Verizon, do they look professional?
- Are they wearing a uniform?
- Does their sport shirt bear the logo of the company they work for?
- Is their shirt tucked in?
- Are they wearing holey jeans or do they look smart in khakis?
It's not just about how you act, but how you appear to your clients. Put yourself in their shoes, would you want you as an instructor?

Q&A: You've got questions, we've got answers! How do you handle those that have taken CPR online?
Students that take an online course still have to take a practical. If you've been doing this long enough, you know it's difficult to learn proper technique from a website.
You can test these folks and not offer advice, heck, you're not getting paid to teach them, right? Or do you take the time to show them the right way to do things?
That's up to you. Of course, you can offer different price structures: one charge if they know what they're doing and a higher cost if they want you to give them some instructions. Remember, we're professionals and deserve to be paid for our services. But don't forget, we're also in the business to help teach people CPR, not just get them through a class.
Got question about teaching? Or maybe how to handle a specific situation during class? Email them to us us. If we use your question, we'll send you a free stock T-shirt!^Back to top |
Stories from the trenches "Competing with $25 per student"
I had someone call to inquire about a CPR class. They've obviously been calling around trying to get the best price - not necessarily the best course.
They told me the last time they took the class, they were only charged $25. Now, he can't find anything less than $60-$90/student. When I asked why he's not going back to the original instructor, there was a pause...'They're not in business anymore!'
It's hard to compete if someone's only looking for price. It's easy when they want quality instructors, clean and well maintained equipment and classes that start and end on time. The latter is what you should be selling (and charging for)...and that information should be clearly stated on your website, brochures and post cards...
