Greetings!

I wanted to look up the one word that combines Christmas, Chanukkah, Ramadan and Kwanzaa...the answer I found sounds good to me:

Happy Holidays!

I've tried to teach my daughters that it's 'Better to want what you have than to have what you want'. A lesson much easier to teach when they were young! This time of year, we need to give thanks for everything we do have: great friends, family and our health.

toys for totsThat's why I have one personal request to make this year. Our parent company, Peregrine Associates, has a large Toys for Tots box in its showroom. Last year we filled it three times! Our goal this year is at least five. If you're not from around here, please drop a new, unwrapped toy in a local box near you. Not only will it put a smile on some child that has very little, but it will make you feel good too. Thank you!

Q&A: You've got questions, we've got answers!

Have classes started slowing down as December approached, but the same time last year was good?

With all the media attention about the new standards (and all the rumors) it's true that classes may have fallen short of last year's projections as prospective students  wonder:empty classroom
  • If the new guidelines are coming out in January, why learn the old ones?
  • Once the new guidelines come out, will their current certification be valid. (Did you send out notices to all your current students explaining that their certifications are still valid?)

  • For some, classes may have picked up in the earlier part of the last quarter, and you may have felt you could save money by cutting back on your marketing campaigns.
Now's the time to market (or just after the first of the year) to push the new guidelines, let folks know to follow through on their New Years resolutions and offer to host a CPR party to get rid of the post holiday blues!

Got question about teaching? Or maybe how to handle a specific situation during class? Email them to us us. If we use your question, we'll send you a free stock T-shirt!

Stories from the trenches
What if they're not real?
girl with hands up
Here's a new one. The current protocol states that hand placement for chest compressions should be midline on the chest, between the nipples.

While teaching a class last month, I had a female student ask what to do if the patient was well endowed. I mentioned it's usually not a problem as the breasts will fall to the side. With an embarrassed smile on her face, she stated that a number of her female family members didn't have 'real ones' so they don't fall - anywhere!

I instructed her that if she had to turn her hand slightly, that would be fine. We left it at that!

Do you have a real-life story or an anecdote you'd like to share? Email them to us. If we use it, you'll receive a free stock T-shirt!
