Southborough Library's Southborough Business Network  Presents: Ari Haseotes of Cumberland Farms - a Family Business that is Built to Last

The Southborough Library's Southborough Business Network (SBN) continues the INSIDE STORY speaker series on Thursday, September 13, at 7:00 p.m.

Come hear the INSIDE STORY of Cumberland Farms. How did this business achieve such success? How is the family navigating the business to ensure it stays relevant in a fast-changing world?  

 

The Southborough connection runs deep for Mr. Haseotes, President and Chief Operating Officer of Cumberland Farms Inc. As a young boy, he attended the Fay School and St. Mark's School.

 

This event is supported by the Friends of the Southborough Library, Fay School, Economic Development Team of Southborough, Southborough Rotary Club and Corridor Nine Area Chamber of Commerce.

The Friends of the Library are sponsoring a design contest - fundraiser and the deadline for the contest to design abag  bag has been extended. The last day pictures may be submitted will be on September 10, 2012. Bags will be available for purchase at the Heritage Day Book Sale in October. Pick up an entry form at the Library!

College Financial Aid Night 
It's never too early to start
thinking about college tuition and how you can maximize financial aid. The Southborough Library will host College Financial Aid Night on Tuesday, September 25, at 6:30 p.m. David Landry, of Central Mass College Funding Advisors, returns to present this important information. Learn when to begin the process, how to lower college costs while protecting your assets and maximizing aid eligibility, and get answers to all your questions.

Database of the Month
Our featured database of the month isscience  perfect for your child's upcoming school science projects. Gale Science in Context provides information on today's most significant science topics in full-text magazines, academic journals, news articles, experiments, and more. For example, students have access to biographies on people who made an impact in the field of science. Simply go to the Southborough Library homepage, click online resources and scroll down to reference databases. Gale Science in Context is listed in the section under Helpful Resources for Students.

If you are a fan of saved lists in your online Library account, be aware that our new system software Evergreen limits the size of lists to ten (10) items. Start a new folder in your account, if you have more than 10 requests! Send us your questions on Evergreen:

Dr. Louis Fazen to Talk at the Library on Thursday, September 20: Stop Dying and Save Healthcare Costs!
Did you know that over half of the deaths in the United States are from preventable causes? Learn how to live a healthier life on Thursday, September 20, at 7:00 p.m. at the Library. Our speaker, Dr. Fazen, is a Southborough resident and Chair of the Board of Health here in town. No registration required. Tell your friends and neighbors, too!

Summer Reading Update 
It was a great summer in thehooray  Children's Room at the Library. Over 400 children participated in the Summer Reading Program. A goal was set for all of the children to read 4,000 books...and they did it! We went over our goal. Thank you to all who participated! You did a fantastic job!
September at the Library

For Children:   
Preschool Storytime for childrenanimals reading  ages 2-5 and their families: 10:30 a.m. on
Mondays: September 10, 17, and 24;
Tuesdays: September 11, 18, and 25;
Wednesdays: September 12, 19, and 26.

 

Baby & Toddler Time for infants to 2 year olds and their families: 11:00 a.m. on Thursdays: September 13, 20, and 27.

 

Build with LEGOs on Tuesday,legos  September 11, 3:45-5:00 p.m., at the Library. Ages 4 and up are welcome, accompanied by a parent or caregiver. Registration is not required.

 

For Teens:
Teen Advisory Group (T.A.G.) will meet on Tuesday, September 25, at 6:30 p.m. Ages 11-18 are welcome to join this group of teens to make book suggestions and plan teen events at the Library. Call 508-485-5031 for more information.

his month, the Library
Board of Trustees will meet on Tuesday,   September 18, at 6:00 p.m., at the Library. Meetings are open to the public and held in a downstairs meeting room.
 
The Friends of the Library will meet on Wednesday, September19, at 7:30 p.m. at the Library. Interested in becoming a Friend of the Southborough Library? We would love to have you join us - the Library needs good Friends!

On Tuesday, September 25, at 6:30 p.m., parents, learn all about College Financial Aid with David Landry at the Library. Please visit the Library or call 508-485-5031 to sign up.

The Southborough Library's Genealogy Club will meet on Thursday, September 27, at 7:00 p.m. at the Library. We're taking on an obituary indexing project that will be important to the genealogy community. All are welcome - the more hands, the better!

Book Discussion Groups:   

First Wednesday Book Group's September book is The Descendants by Kaui Hart Hemmings. The group will meet on Wednesday, September 12, (yes, that's the second Wednesday this month!) at 10:00 a.m. at the Library.

 

The Senior Center Book Group

by Kate  Alcott, on Wednesday, September 12, at 11:00 a.m., at the Senior Center.   

 

The YA Book Group will discuss Jasper Jones by Craig Silvey on Wednesday, September 26, 6:30 p.m., at the Library. Pizza and soda provided by Southborough Domino's on Route 9.  

 

The 2nd & 3rd Grade Book Group will meet on Wednesday, September 19, 6:30 p.m., at the Library to begin planning for the 2012-2013 season. 

 

The 4th-6th Grade Book Group willchasing vermeer  meet to discuss Chasing Vermeer by Blue Balliett on Thursday, September 20, 6:30 p.m., at the Library. Pizza and soda provided by the Friends of the Library.
