What's Happening at the Library in July

E-readers are Here!

Interested in trying out a Kindle or Nook? The Library now has two of each, for your borrowing pleasure. Each device has over a dozen titles pre-loaded; search the library's catalog for "ereader" and see what we have to offer. E-readers go out for 3 weeks, and you'll need to sign a pledge to handle with care, and return in person each time you borrow one. Give them a try!

 Library  Centennial Update:

Nick Noble to Speak on

Local History and Library History in  September

Front of building

As you know, this year marks 100 years at this address:  25 Main Street, Southborough. Although the library was started with a decree from Colonel Francis B. Fay in 1852, it was moved to its current location 59 years later in 1911.

As part of our centennial celebration, the Friends of the Library are sponsoring an Essay and Art Contest for children of all ages. Ages 4-7 can color a picture that Ms. Kim has selected for them; ages 8-12 can write an essay on "What the Library Means to Me;"  and ages 13-18 can write an essay, take a photograph, or make a video of "What the Library Means to the Community." There will be prizes in all age categories and winners will be announced in the Fall. Entry forms are at the Library and submissions are due July 15.

Please plan to join us on Saturday, September 17, for an Open House, with refreshments, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

New Policy on Tutors at the Library
tutoringIn response to numerous requests from library users
for quiet at the Library, and
in an effort to continue to accommodate tutors, the Library Board of Trustees has implemented a new policy for tutors.  The library will now offer meeting room space for tutors by reservation only on the lower level of the Library (more than one tutoring session may take place in the same meeting room). Also new: a modest fee of $5.00 per session, payable by the tutor (monies go to the Town of Southborough). There will be no more tutoring allowed in the upstairs reading rooms, for the sake of all of our patrons.  Please contact the Library to reserve the space.

Friends of the Library

thank all who donated items and
who came to shop at this year's very successful June Book Sale. It was
another good fund raiser in support
of library programs and services.

THANK YOU!!
