Welcome to amd's February / March newsletter... (Less than 2 mins to read)
The end of 2010's first quarter all ready! New Year's Eve only seems a couple of weeks away yet here we are - the end of the financial year.
Things have been hectic, and for much of the last two months I have been in the factory with the lads, chipping in to make sure we satisfy all our customers; I trust that we have! We have a lot of work in the pipeline and new contracts are starting to take effect, so I am looking forward to the possibility of hiring some more hands in the factory after the end of March and hanging up my overalls - at least for a little while! I wish you all luck for the 2010/11 financial year.
Regards,
Steve

The end of tough times?
There is a feeling around that with the end of the 2009/10 financial year comes the end of the recession. No doubt the aftermath will drag on for months to come, however as we tie up the loose ends of the year end, we should all be looking towards the future and pushing for an increase in business. amd was acknowledged in a 'bdaily' article titled "Region outpaces national average", released on the 9th February. The article focussed on how the North East economy made a positive start to 2010. The latest
figures from January's North East PMI report revealed stronger growth of output and new orders than the UK
average. We were delighted that amd were mentioned as a company who is "already experiencing favourable trading conditions following the end of the recession" and looking forward to the future. To read the full article click here. Due to amd's efforts over the past months in driving into sectors which were less recession hit - you may remember in our last newsletter how James was sending me all over the North East - we are looking forward to the new financial year and some major companies becoming key customers of ours. Rest assured I feel we are prepared for the coming months and as always, customer care is amd's top priority. I am looking forward to continuing the work we do for all our customers and I hope the next year will allow me to get to know you all even better. Always remember that I will always make time to meet with my customers; so if you wish to meet to discuss our future business prospects, get some advice or just have a chat, maybe a cheeky pint, then just let me know! |
Customer feature article: Arconia Engineeri ng Arconia are a fairly new customer of AMD and work in the oil and gas sector on projects for companies all over the world. A recent project that Arconia completed was a
set of four pollution
pans for an oil rig in Brazil. The pans were designed to catch
overspills and spillages on the oilrig, preventing oil
wastage and more importantly preventing the oil becoming a hazard to the environment.

The pollution
pans varied in shape and were four metres in diameter and four metres square.
The pans were manufactured from 3mm Zintec, which was rolled, bent and welded
into position. The pans were then connected using a variety of stainless steel
pipes which allows the oil and waste to be directed to a storage facility. The
whole job was painted by amd; the units were shot blasted before being painted
to a 3 coat offshore paint spec, using Leighs paints and achieving a dry film
thickness of at least 275 microns. This provides excellent protection against
chemicals and harsh offshore conditions.

Because of the
strongly associated benefits and innovative functionality of onsite fluid
control, pollution pans become widely adopted by oil companies and drilling
contractors worldwide allowing rigs, wellheads, barge rigs and drill rigs, on
site fluid control which benefits both the company and the environment.
Arconia are based in the Tyne Tunnel Industrial estate. Contact Steven Plummer at steven.plummer@arconia-eng.co.uk for more information.

amd smash quotation records
I am delighted to note that amd have quoted over £4,000,000 of work over the first quarter of 2010, which goes far beyond any amount we have quoted before. This is testament to the hard work that has been put in over the last year by the whole team at amd and provides a very promising outlook for the months to come.
Of course a quotation figure means little without successful quotation retention, and so I am very happy to announce that amd have gained some sizable contracts recently, notably from:
Rotary Power, a division of British Engines, who produce precision engineered hydraulic motors and pumps for offshore, electrical, construction, engineering and other industries. Visit their website for more information on Rotary Power and British Engines Limited.
Tharsus Engineering, a sheet metal fabrication company based in the UK and who deliver projects across a broad range of industrial sectors including rail, telecoms, electronics, defence and transport. Visit their website for more information on the Tharsus group.
AAP Metal Fabrication Services, a fabrication company based on the Bede Industrial Estate in Jarrow who produce precise, uniform quality fabrications across several sectors. Visit their website for more infomration.
I would like to thank all our customers for all the opportunities you give us to work with you, on all jobs, large or small. I hope to continue working and developing with you for a very long time to come.

amd receive full paint inspector qualification

Congratulations to one of our most valued painters, John Mould, who has recently received the certification formally establishing him as a fully qualified paint inspector.
John is a highly skilled and extremely reliable wet painter who is an expert is his field. He is one of the men responsible for most of the wet painting for the oil and gas, defence, NORSOK and signage work that is carried out here at amd.
We have a great team at amd, but all too often the lads on the shop floor are not fully recognised for the work they put in. So let me take this opportunity to congratulate John once again, he, like all members of my team, has a bright future at amd.
