The Baldner Family
 HOT HEADS!

The Art of Hair, Inc., Etc..

Yvette Sholes Baldner is originally from Miami, FL. She graduated from Southwest Senior High. Her passion as she was growing up was Motorcross racing, which she began at the age of 6. She was a very successful, competitive racer until her racing ended at the age of 16 due to a complicated knee injury. While in high school, Yvette participated in a dual enrollment program where she was able to complete her Cosmetology Degree and become licensed at the age of 17. During her senior year she won the V.I.C.A. competition, which is a state competition. She moved to Crystal River in 1989 and started her career as a Citrus County professional. In 1990 she opened Hot Heads, at the age of 19.  Since then she has one of the most successful salon businesses in Citrus County and has recently been noted as the longest running single business owner in her field. In addition, Yvette was recognized in Who's Who among women in business owners in Citrus County. Located in Heritage Village, Hot Heads, The Art of Hair is a full service salon offering massage therapy, manicures, pedicures as well as an array of hair services in a down-home Citrus County atmosphere. Although her business is her primary concern we can't forget the time she spends on community services. Yvette has organized the Crystal River Scarecrow Fest for the past 9 years. This event is held at Downtown Heritage Village and provides funds for many local non-profit organizations. She is also actively involved in youth organizations such as Sharks Football and Crystal River Little League.

Dan is a native Crystal River boy. He graduated from Crystal River High School in 1987. Prior to high school, Dan was an active member of youth sports in Crystal River, especially Pop Warner Sharks Football. At the young age of 6, he began playing football and it has been his passion every since. He never stopped playing football, playing throughout middle and high school, although he did take a break to throw in some wrestling during his high school years. Dan began coaching Pop Warner Football in 1991 and has been actively involved every since. He served many years on the board as a Football Commissioner as well as President. Dan is currently a member of the Timucua Conference Board of Directors. Football may be his preference, but you can also see him coaching on the baseball field for Crystal River Little League as well. Just like Yvette, he remains involved in our community while maintaining a business. Dan received a contractors license in 2005 and currently owns and operates Southern Skies Construction.

Dan and Yvette were married in July 2000. They have two successful, academically and sports oriented children: Cole, age 10 and Montana, age 7. Both children attend Citrus Springs Elementary and are actively involved in sports and the community as well.
An Irish Blessing
 (A Blessing from St. Patrick)

May the road rise to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back,
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
May the rains fall soft upon your fields,
 And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the hollow of His hand.

 My Heritage...
                                            from the
Written by Laura Lou Tolle Fitzpatrick

Over the years, I have been asked time and time again to share stories of my family Heritage. Friends and strangers walk into the Heritage House, and cottages, at Heritage Village and want to know more about the family that resided there and some of its history. Starting in March 2010, I decided to give this a try and write a monthly journal about my family Heritage, with the help of my family and friends. Not knowing where to begin, I decided to dedicate the March story (turned into a book, ha ha) to my parents, Ed and Kay Tolle and my in-laws, Charles B. and Dorothy Fitzpatrick. I hope you enjoy reading as much as I enjoyed writing! So get comfy and let's get started.

Recipes of the Month

From the Kitchen of Dorothy Fitzpatrick...

                                                                                      IRISH STEW
  • 2 pounds of stew beef
  • Lawry's season salt
  • 2 slices of marrow bone
  • 5 cups of water
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
Spray pan with Pam and brown meat which has been seasoned with Lawry season salt. Add marrow bone and water. Cover and cook about an hour on a low temperature until meat begins to tender. Add the following.
  • 4 carrots
  • 4 medium potatoes
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon parsley
Cook until vegetables are tender and add one cup frozen green peas. Add 2 tablespoons of cornstarch mixed with enough water to make a thin paste. Add to stew to thicken. This will only take about one minute. Serves 4-6 people.

CORNED BEEF AND CABBAGE
  • 4 pounds of corned beef with spices
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1 teaspoon pickling spices
Put corned beef, garlic and spices in pressure cooker and cover with water. Cook at 10 pounds pressure one hour after control jiggles. Remove meat from broth. Add one head of cut-up cabbage to liquid and cook until desired doneness. Services 4-6 people.
