National Women Build Week

May 5-13

Calling all women! An initiative of Habitat for Humanity's Women Build program, the fifth annual National Women Build Week, sponsored by Lowe's, challenges women to devote at least one day between May 5-13, to the effort to eliminate poverty housing. This year's theme, "The Build Generation," reflects the event's goal to recruit and train women volunteers to help support Habitat's mission to create affordable housing. Come join a great cause and sign-up to volunteer today.

WALP Installs Three Yards for EHFH

Homeowners

On a chilly March Saturday, SW Chapter members of the Washington Association of Landscape Professionals (WALP) pooled their resources to pro
vide landscaping for three Evergreen Habitat homes.  Company owners and
employees, along with their families gathered at 8:00am Saturday to spread topsoil, install sod, hydro seed and plants all donated by local WALP member businesses.

Sue Fox, WALP SW Chapter coordinator, came out along with her son who got the whole ball rolling.  "My son volunteered to help build on one of these homes last summer.  He had the opportunity to meet one of the homeowners and really understand what the process is all about. It touched him greatly. He asked WALP if they would consider landscaping this family home."  Sue adds, "The members of our association are so amazing. They took this request to do one home and turned it into three."

Evergreen Habitat for Humanity along with the homeowners would like to sincerely thank the 15 companies and all those involved:  G2 Outdoor Living & Kyne Landscaping, Suncrest Landscaping, Frontier Landscaping, Vick Landscaping, Kuenzi Turf, Vick Landscaping, Country Green, Davis Landscaping, JM Landscaping and Irrigation, Shipp Brothers, Southridge Growers, All Season Plants, United Pipe, Dan Jones Conveyers, Inc., Ramirez Family, Colten Fox and Sue Fox.

Ever wish you could swing a golf club instead of a hammer to help build a home for a Habitat family? On May 24th, you can do just that.

Evergreen Habitat is gearing up for the 7th Annual Golf Tournament, one of the most popular EHFH events of the year. The scramble-style tournament will be held at Camas Meadows Golf Club at 7am with a shotgun start at 8am. All proceeds will benefit Evergreen Habitat's Clark County home builds.

Spots for individuals and teams are still open.

Individuals $125

Teams $500

Businesses have the opportunity to advertise alongside Habitat through available sponsorship opportunities.  Contact the EHFH office for more details.

"Evergreen Habitat's golf tournament is easily the best in Clark County," said Josh Townsley, Evergreen Habitat Executive Director.

Sign up now before the field is full! More info here.

Construction Briefs

Construction is moving along on the Women Build lot.  Trusses were set in the beginning of April.  We are now getting the roof on the future home of the Bastidas family.

Our Women Build volunteers are still working on fundraising so we can purchase the rest of the materials to finish the house.  If you would like to donate to the Women Build effort, please click here to learn more.

Volunteer Spotlight:

Camille Wright

Camille Wright working on the Women Build site

Camille Wright first volunteered with Habitat for Humanity Portland/Metro East when her church sponsored a townhome at Rivergate in Portland.  Camille  became involved with Evergreen Habitat for Humanity in June of 2011 at our 20th Anniversary Tool Box Bash after seeing the opportunity posted in an e-newsletter.  Since then Camille has been involved in many different local projects inlcuding Patten Park, Women Build and now as the Volunteer Liaision.

"I have always enjoyed making things from scratch (quilting, crafting, cooking), so I'm really enjoying putting together something BIG, like a house!" says Camille.  "But the best part is being out there meeting, learning and working with other people who are really dedicated to helping deserving families get into safe, secure homes of their own in a very concrete way."
