A New Home for the New Year: Cabrera and Griffin Home Dedications January 28th!

As family and friends gathered on a brisk January day, there was much excitement in the air as the Cabrera and Griffin families celebrated their home dedication with Evergreen Habitat for Humanity.

Bank of America

David Moss, of Bank of Americathe sponsoring partner of the Cabrera family home, Tom Taylor, of Wells Fargo, the sponsoring partner of the Griffin home presented the keys on this special occasion.

These two dedications marked the completion of the seven home Patten Park Development.  Over 8,000 volunteer hours have been clocked in the past year.

"We will be celebrating the hard work of hundreds of

 volunteers, who have

invested their time, energy and dollars into this project," said Josh Townsley, executive director of Evergren Habitat for Humanity.

"It's very exciting and a huge blessing for me and our family," Lucrecia Cabrera said.  "We had almost gave up when we got the call from Evergreen Habitat," Cristino Cabrera recalled.

It was difficult for Lindsay Griffin to speak without tearing up on that day. "I'm looking forward to all our memories we're going to have here.  It made going through the application process twice worth it!"

Thank you to Wells Fargo, Bank of America and everyone involved in completing these two homes and this development.  Every contribution means a great deal to Evergreen Habitat for Humanity and even more to those families we are partnering with to break the cycle of poverty.

Women Build Rally - February 29th, 6:00 pm

Good News!  Women Build construction has started.  The foundation has been completed and volunteers are actively working on the home. To kick off the construction, we are having a Women Build Rally on February 29th, 6:00pm, at  Sweet Tomatoes, 12601 SE 2nd Circle, Vancouver, WA (off Mill Plain Blvd). 360-891-0240

We will be celebrating those who have already exceeded their fundraising goals and having an information session to go over our program.  This will also be a fundraiser for our Women Build, 15% will be donated from the evenings proceeds.

We are scheduling for the Women Build house. Please visit our Volunteer Calendar to see what shifts are available.  If you have not completed the online orientation for new volunteers, you will need to do that before signing up.  Remember that Women Build volunteers must commit to 16 hours on the build site as well as fundraising a minimum of $150.  If you have not met your fundraising goal, you can volunteer onsite and pledge to raise those funds before the completion of the home.

Volunteer Spotlight:

Barbara Harmon

Vol. Barbara H

Barbara has worked on two houses through the Evergreen Habitat for Humanity office. "I enjoy volunteering with Habitat because it is something you can physically see your work and know that when the family is handed their keys they can sleep worry free. You get to know so many people from so many walks of life and they are always willing to put in as much as possible."
