Greetings!

We hope you enjoy reading about the highlights of Evergreen Habitat for Humanity this month.  As always we greatly appreciate your support of our affiliate where we continue to build safe and affordable housing for our hard-working, low-income families.  If you would like to find out how you can help, please visit www.ehfh.org for more information.

Evergreen Habitat volunteers build in Haiti

John and Dennis
John and Dennis presenting about Haiti

As a part of Evergreen Habitat's continued commitment to tithing funds to developing countries, volunteers John DiVittorio and Dennis Wieder recently returned from Leogane, Haiti. John and Dennis volunteered with the Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Work Project. Leogane was the epicenter of the January 2010 earthquake that ravished the country. John and Dennis were two of over 500 volunteers that helped build 100 homes in 5 days!

John and Dennis were selected to represent Evergreen Habitat in Haiti because of their dedication to our local community and the work we do. John and Dennis have been volunteering for several years and are a part of our Friday regular construction volunteers. They have each put in hundreds of hours helping to build homes for local partner families.

Thank you John and Dennis for your contribution to Evergreen Habitat, our community, and now the world.  Interested in being a part of a future Carter Work Project or other international trip? Let us know at Josh@ehfh.org.

Evergreen Habitat has funded over 27 builds abroad; a healthy contribution to the 500,000 homes Habitat for Humanity has built all over the world.

Crew Leader Training Opportunity!

Interested in being more involved on the build site?  EHFH is currently accepting applications for its Crew Leader Training program.  Crew Leaders are trained volunteers that will help lead a small group of less experienced volunteers on the build site.  Knowledge and/or experience in construction, previous volunteering experience with Habitat for Humanity and use of power tools is highly recommended.  The course is designed to educate volunteers on the skills needed to build a Habitat for Humanity house.

Crew Leaders are instructors, teachers and supervisors of volunteers.  They help with volunteer responsibilities and provide a better experience for volunteers.  The knowledge and skills learned in this course will enable crew leaders to better guide volunteers.  With plans to build multiple houses that may be in different locations, the role of the Crew Leader will be vital in completion of the homes.

The training will take place from January 17, 2012 through February 28, 2012 consisting of six two-hour courses that will meet on Tuesday evenings and three Saturday training days.  There is a course fee of $35 that will cover cost of materials.  The course will be led by trained Habitat staff as well as experienced Habitat volunteers.

For more information, please call or email VISTA Volunteer Coordinator Melissa Carson at (360) 737-1759 or volunteer@ehfh.org.  More information, including an online application, is available on our website at www.ehfh.org/crew-leader-training/

Volunteer Spotlight:

Angie Lyons

Angie Lyons

You might recognize Angie's name, as she has been the author of these newsletters for the last 12 months! As our VISTA for Marketing and Communications, Angie spent the last year strengthening our marketing materials, giving presentations to community groups, and developing a marketing committee.

Angie's year of volunteer service for Habitat finished in early November. She's accepted a VISTA position in Spokane with another organization. We're going to miss her positive attitude and dedication to
the cause!
