Raising the Roof Breakfast brings in $50,000!

With 300 attendees, and a very generous matching challenge from Habitat supporter Joe Pauletto, $50,000 was raised at the annual Raising the Roof Breakfast on Friday, October 28th, 2011. Kim Capeloto was the emcee for the event, with special presentations from Josh Townsley, John McKibbin, and Joe Pauletto. Desere' Bastidas, future Women Build homeowner shared her story and the importance of having a home for her children.

A huge thanks to Bank of America for underwriting the event and ensuring that all donations went straight towards programs. Thank you to our many Table Sponsors and Table Captains as well for their investment of time and funds to the cause.

Funds from this year's event will go towards building homes in Clark County, as well as the A Brush with Kindness program. If you'd like to make a donation as a part of the Raising the Roof campaign, contact our office at (360) 737-1759 or donate here.

New Evergreen Habitat website launched!
website screen shot

Evergreen Habitat has finished revamping its website to make it more visually appealing and user-friendly.

The goal in creating the new website was to make it easier for volunteers and supporters to interact with the site and find the information they need quickly. The website design features improvements such as simple online volunteer sign-up and secure online giving. The site will be live in the first week of November 2011.

James Dubick of Firebrand Labs in Chicago generously donated his time and expertise to build a site that is easy to navigate and informative.

"The website redesign is part of a host of plans to improve our web presence and to better serve our volunteers and potential homeowners by offering additional online resources," said Josh Townsley, executive director, Evergreen Habitat for Humanity.

Evergreen Habitat impacts builds worldwide

Haiti
Port au Prince, Haiti

Having built twenty-one homes in Clark County, the difference Evergreen Habitat for Humanity has made in our community is apparent. What is not so obvious is Evergreen's part in Habitat for Humanity's effort to eliminate poverty housing worldwide. Through Habitat for Humanity's Tithe program, Evergreen Habitat has funded over 27 builds abroad; a healthy contribution to the 500,000 homes Habitat for Humanity has built all over the world.

In the past, Evergreen Habitat has focused on donating funds to builds in South Africa and the Middle East. This year, Evergreen is tithing ten percent of its unrestricted funds to Haiti. Evergreen Habitat doesn't just help fund the builds; two local volunteers are going oversees to participate in construction. This year, Evergreen is sending long-time volunteers John DiVittorio and Dennis Wieder.

"It's exciting to be able to have the opportunity to particpate in this program," said DiVittorio.
