6th Annual Golf Tournament will be held on May 26th at Camas Meadows Golf Club

 Golf Tournament 2010

Ever wish you could swing a golf club instead of a hammer to help build a home for a Habitat family? On May 26th, you can do just that.

Evergreen Habitat is gearing up for the 6th annual golf tournament, one of the most popular EHFH events of the year. The scramble-style tournament will be held at Camas Meadows Golf Club at 7am with a shotgun start at 8. All proceeds will benefit Evergreen Habitat's Clark County home builds.

Spots for individuals and teams are still open.

Individuals $125

Teams $500

Businesses have the opportunity to advertise alongside Habitat through green and tee box sponsorships.

"Evergreen Habitat's golf tournament is easily the best in Clark County," said Justin Myers, Evergreen Habitat board member and long-time tournament participant. "Competition is friendly and everyone goes home with a raffle prize."

Evergreen Habitat to Launch New Program

'A Brush with Kindness'  to start May 6th

Expanding efforts to improve neighborhood living conditions in Clark County and include a greater number of volunteers in Habitat's work, Evergreen Habitat will launch the A Brush with Kindness program on May 6, 2011

A Brush with Kindness is an exterior building preservation program aimed at serving seniors, disabled citizens and low-income homeowners. Evergreen Habitat's first project through the program will be to refurbish the Battle Ground Senior Center--painting, powerwashing and refreshing the landscape.

"Habitat's A Brush with Kindness is part of their larger Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative. This initiative gives us a great opportunity to help more families in need, as well as have an impact on the entire neighborhood" said Dave Gray, ABWK project manager. "Helping people repair and maintain their homes fits in seamlessly with Habitat's core mission of making decent, affordable housing available to low-income families."

Ground Broken on First Build of 2011

ground breaking 2011

On April 16th, Habitat broke ground on the Cabrera family home in front a dedication crowd of 50 Habitat supporters and volunteers. The home is the first of three to be completed by the affiliate this season. Group builds will begin in mid-May following excavation on the construction site.

"The ground-breaking ceremony marks the beginning of a process that will lead to permanent housing for our partner families and to the completion of the Patten Park development," said Josh Townsley, executive director of Evergreen Habitat.

Pastor Ron McClung of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church blessed the build site and Bank of America presented the $60,000 investment that will build the home.

If interested in participating in a build, please complete the web registration form which can be found on the Evergreen Habitat website.

Golf Golf Tournament continued

Last year, the tournament netted over $16,000 for Habitat's building efforts, which is enough to build three bedrooms in a Habitat home.

Last year's winners were Team Construction with a score of -25 under par. The winners went home with a trophy and won 18 free holes of golf courtesy of Camas Meadows Golf Course.

"We have over 100 individuals signed up so far," said Josh Townsley, executive director of Evergreen Habitat. "Golfers of all skill levels are welcome."

For more information or to sign up, contact Melissa at 373-1759 or melissa@ehfh.org.

A Brush with Kindness continued

In order to open up the view of Battle Ground from the site, volunteers will also be removing trees doing basic landscaping on May 6th. Habitat for Humanity will be touching up worn paint and trim on the exterior of the facility the following day.

"Keeping homes livable is just as important as building the initial structure and Habitat realizes that," said Kenneth Campbell, pastor of St. John's Presbyterian Church. Saint John's Presbyterian is a church partnering with Evergreen Habitat on the A Brush with Kindness program. Battle Ground United Methodist Church is the church proving support for the Battle Ground Senior Center clean-up.

A Brush with Kindness is underwritten by a grant from Valspar, Habitat's National Paint Partner. Locally, State Farm Insurance has generously donated funding for tools and other necessary materials. Camas-Washougal Community Chest provided funding for a trailer since the entire program has to be mobile-coming to the homes of people who need assistance.
