Evergreen Habitat for Humanity Dedicates Homes to Soria and Jatskovski Families
| | Homeowner Maria Soria addresses the crowd during the 2010 Home Dedication Ceremony at Habitat's Patten Park development. | On Sunday, December 19th Evergreen Habitat for Humanity held the organization's annual home dedication ceremony at Habitat's Patten Park development. Community members and Habitat sponsors attended this event to celebrate the completions of EHFH's two newest homes, the organization's 20th and 21st homes completed to date. Among the crowd were Maria "Malou" Soria, her daughter, and the seven-member Jatskovski family who received the keys to their new homes. The two families worked alongside volunteers for the last seven months, working a total of at least 300 hours each, to finish work on these houses before the start of the New Year. "This ceremony is to recognize the families and hard work this community has done to end the cycle of poverty in our area," said Kristina Aitchison, executive director of Evergreen Habitat for Humanity. The impact of these builds on the Vancouver area was also made evident by the presence of many of the volunteers who helped make these homes tangible community structures. These volunteers include members of Thrivent Financial, the Lutheran banking institution that sponsored and participated in the Jatskovski home build, as well as members of Wells Fargo, the sponsor that helped make the Soria home a reality. Participants of EHFH's CEO build and Elected Officials build also came out to congratulate the families on their new homes. "Kudos to Habitat for Humanity and the many volunteers that make life changing experiences for less fortunate families possible," said Don Stose, councilman for the City of Ridgefield. Evergreen Habitat for Humanity has been working to eliminate sub-standard housing in Clark County since 1991. The Soria and Jatskovski homes are the 5th and 6th houses built in Habitat's Patten Park development. Habitat plans to complete the development with a nine-home capacity next year.

Habitat for Humanity's Gifts that Build Program Fundraiser Launched with December Mailing
In the spirit of the holidays, Evergreen Habitat for Humanity headed off its annual Gifts that Build program this December. Gifts that Build
is Habitat for Humanity's honorary giving program that allows Habitat supporters to give gifts of kindness that will help build a Habitat for Humanity home for a local family.
Individuals have the option of making a contribution in the name of a friend or loved one ranging from the cost of buying a box of nails to the cost of building an entire house for a Clark County family.
"The Gifts that Build program is how Habitat starts planning for the following year's build", said Kristina Aitchison, executive director of Habitat for Humanity. "[This program] is how we begin to get the community involved with the work we do each year."
Each gift recipient will be delivered a specially designed greeting card, a commemorative ornament and the joy of knowing that, because of them, a hardworking family will soon have a decent home of their own.
If you would like to participate in this year's Gifts that Build program, you may dedicate your gift online by clicking on the "donate" link on our homepage or by filling out the honorary giving form mailed by Evergreen Habitat for Humanity.
