Ground Breaking Ceremony Highlighted on Front Page of The Columbian in May 3rd Issue
(Both families, volunteers, family partners, Wells Fargo and Thrivent Financial representatives, dig first holes of the Jatskovski and Soria future homes.)
Both the Jatskovski and Soria family ground breaking ceremonies at the Patten Park subdivision were featured on the front page of May 3, 2010 issue of The Columbian. "The front page coverage helps us show how many volunteers, business leaders and partnerships are needed to make safe and affordable homes a reality," Kristina Aitchison, Executive Director said. Aitchison and Bill Bryant, Evergreen Habitat for Humanity Board President, kicked off the Sunday, May 2nd event by welcoming everyone, introducing the families and thanking the house sponsors Wells Fargo Bank and Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. The ground breaking event included a site blessing by Pastor Jim Stender and refreshments were donated by Solar Espresso and Main Street Coffee House which were enjoyed by the crowd of approximately 50 people. "This is the beginning of helping two families leave substandard housing and have a chance of a brighter future. This wouldn't be possible if it weren't for the support of Thrivent Financial and Wells Fargo," Aitchison said.

Land Needed to Build More Habitat Homes
Evergreen Habitat for Humanity (EHFH) is looking for land to develop in Clark County immediately in order to continue to build safe and affordable housing in 2012.
"It's wonderful that our Patten Park subdivision will be finished soon and it is important as an organization to be looking ahead at the next building project," Executive Director, Kristina Aitchison said.
The current development of seven homes will be completed in 2011 when EHFH completes the last two homes in Patten Park.
An editorial featured in The Columbian on May 4, 2010 described how the Habitat program is one that takes a lot of sweat equity, volunteers, sponsors and most of all land to continue building homes for hard working, low income families.
"We need land that doesn't require extensive capital improvements and is close to transportation so our families can get to their jobs," Aitchison said.
If you are interested in donating or selling your land to Evergreen Habitat for Humanity, please contact our office at (360) 737-1759.
